Fonte talking about contract delay...seems like it hasn't got beyond the talks stage. I read before that the club want to pay him more, but not extend the contract as he will be 35 when the present contract ends. Now you know I am a little fond of Fonte:emoticon-0111-blush, but even I would stall on a contract extension. Needs to improve his consistency at the moment as we can't expect him to improve further with age.

This could be another instance of FFP at work. Saints have said several times that they would like to offer the players betters deals but they can only offer percentage increases based on their budget for the previous season. That's FFP at work, effectively holding the smaller, but very rich, club back.
 
The match highlights on the new OS are 1,000,000% better too. Not sure why you have to sign up for access to video but if you were a Player subscriber you are already registered anyway.

First time I've gone to the new OS. Honestly didn't know there was one. My first impression was wow.!

Signed up and currently watching the full 90 mins against WHU just because I can. OK, so I downloaded it on Sunday in HD anyway, but I'll just imagine I didn't. ;)

EDIT: Mind you, there's HD and HD. This is pretty good. Nice contrast.

Fonte's comments about not having signed a new contract has stirred up gossip....resurrecting the idea that he could move to United. I just cannot see this....apart from the Portugal connection, I can't see why United would want Fonte now. I could have understood Liverpool any time over the last three years, but Jose to United??

Florin back in training and suggesting that he will play at Staplewood on Friday for the U23s. Really feel for Florin (as he seems a lovely lad)....joined us just in time for us to sign Toby and then has had a series of injuries. Hope he really gets back to full fitness.

p.s. he may have meant last week??

Come on Florin. Looking forward to him coming back. Good strength in depth then for the fixtures that will hopefully continue to pile up :)
 
Yeah really hope he comes good, too. Remember the odd occasion he did actually get to play, he seemed relatively assured. Think I remember him playing against Utd and doing fairly well, but I might be wrong.

As for Fonte...pretty sure those rumours are a case of, "Fonte still hasn't signed + Man Utd were apparently interested in the summer = Fonte transfer could be back on". Funnily enough, with VVD being the absolute rock that he has been so far, and Jose's sketchy performances I'm not as concerned if/when he does move onto pastures new.

On Florin - yes, away to United when Toby went off injured after 17 minutes. Florin was excellent.

On Jose - I said back in the height of the rumour frenzy that I wouldn't be concerned about losing Jose the player at this stage of his career, but certainly Jose the man and what he symbolised to the club!!

Yeh, I'll certainly raise a glass of Quinta da Rose when he does eventually go. I can still see him scoring that goal at Brighton away like it was yesterday.
