Here are my thoughts from the comfort of my Mallorcan villa (Ha! town house) on the season that has just finished. Proud that SFC finished 8th, then the reality sets in and we realise we are top of a very poor group of teams, bar maybe Leicester who if they had woken up earlier should have finished much closer to Everton.
It seems that the atmosphere at St Mary's has turned toxic based on the lack of goals and entertainment meaning that the club could lose the interest and loyalty of several thousand ST holders and regulars, which would result in the average gate dipping below the 30,000 mark. What can be done to keep the faith of those fans? Maybe a change of manager but that is for the board to decide. I believe the most important thing Saints can do in the close season is persaude VVD to stay another 12 months and resist the bids that are going to come down the telephone during the summer months. That way fans may come to think that Saints are not merely a "selling" club. That to my mind is number one priority. Number two, a signing that is going to make people sit up and take notice. That is difficult but maybe the goal-scoring midfielder from Fulham who would do just as well in the PL surrounded by better players. And lastly, get the players to create more space in between and behind the opposition defence thus creating space for the attackers.
