Watching old school football is sometimes good for a laugh. I watched some highlights from some Saints game from around 2001, which wasn't even that long ago. Every goal would be a total embarrassment if it was scored today. It's basically a different sport now.

Interesting to think, in 15 years time will we look back at 2016/17 games and view them in the same way, relative to the football of 2031/32 ?

(To put this into perspective, Josh Sims will be about to retire.....)

Yeah I think it will be interesting. Things like academy investment and major coaching changes have about a 10 year lag time and I think some of that will come through soon as those players reach their peak.

Personally I think the biggest change will be fitness. There was a change about 8 years ago where you couldn't be a professional footballer and be slow any more (sorry 2005 Saints defence). But IMO a lot of players are only at their "natural" levels of fitness. One of the best young players in England now is Dele Alli, and he is incredibly fit (I think I read an article saying he would win any Spurs squad race from 100m to 5km). So the next change might be that players who are not at elite physica standards can't make the top level.
