Watched 3 match highlights on sky...arsenal, Huddersfield and Brighton. Great results and so important, but how many of us thought survival was a cinch at that point. I know I did...but still tough times to come.
Can you name every Premier League opponent we've faced since it's inception in 1992? https://southamptonfc.com/news/2019...d4oQ6AsCIuBudFSxLZY0cQ6kuWEsCIClfZhPk5p4Pimhw
It's like when a club or the fans arrange a minutes applause for a legend leaving the club or someone's passing(not the football term!). Everyone is told to clap and cheer in the 10th minute as that was his shirt number. The majority of people cheer when the clock reaches 10 minutes when in actual fact they should start when it shows 9 and stop when it shows 10. Has that helped at all?
I used to be staggered by how under appreciated he was by supporters. Not only was he a great centre forward, he had great feet, with a powerful shot in either and he often dominated two centre backs. Coupled to that he was a talisman and got the club talked about. I loved it that he was our player. And although I was really disappointed when he went I was so glad he didn't go to another PL club. China was the best place - make a pile and retire, or maybe go to the MLS. And Dusan was never quite the same afterwards either. He'd lost his target and best mate.
I’m going to put my part of this right as I was one of his critics. Under appreciated? Nah. Criticised? Yes. I always valued and appreciated what he gave us, however he also could be so frustrating with his aimless flicks and his standing there balling at a team mate with his arms spread wide, whilst a defender or goal keeper were passing the ball by him. He was great for us and a hell of a character. I loved having him here, but stand by the criticism he got.
So, genuine Q here. How is the criticism above ok (which I believe it is) different from day people sarcastically clapping when Fraser caught a ball. I get confused about all this and therefore believe it’s in the mindset of the player. Pelle would have heard the moans and groans about his flicks. Just people got moaned at on here for moaning at Fraser, but not for doing similar at others. Maybe we are all a bit strange.
I never moaned and groaned at the ground. Giving a player stick on the pitch won’t help their confidence
Mental health has never been more under the microscope in society, which is obviously a good thing, but at times it’s very difficult to maintain an empathy for a particular persons situation before the old school advice of “grow a pair” kicks back in. Audible moans and groans, boos are part of the football atmosphere, blocking that out is part of the game that players have had to deal with since crowds came to watch. Boruc got off to one of the worst starts to a Saints career I can remember, but was still trying to Cruyff turn strikers a few months later. When I hear players complain about a negative crowd, I’m hearing an excuse and not a reason.
