All the Statsbomb previews have been great, here's our one. Heavily features graphs, percentages, shot maps etc. http://statsbomb.com/2017/08/southampton-2017-18-season And the Guardian https://amp.theguardian.com/football/blog/2017/aug/08/premier-league-2017-18-preview-southampton
One thing I noticed was the reference to Alaves under Mauricio providing the opposition with only low level chances. That used to be what we did...a strong defensive unit protecting Forster....that is what gave us so many clean sheets. Combine a return to that style with improved luck in front of goal and this could be a good season. And I also felt sorry for Puel...he set the team up to create chances, but the players failed to convert. He did his job, but they didn't do theirs. Still that is the past and we have to feel hopeful for this season.
You can play good steady football for years and years and scarcely be remembered or appreciated, but do one magical goal (or 2 in Forte's case) and you are remembered for ever.
Well, this set the team up to make chances point can be qualified by your own reference to "low level chances". In fact, our approach play was slow and meant we were normally approaching a crowded box - and producing low level chances. I hope MP2 urges us to take on earlier balls.
Good,no Celtic fans here then. After a long Rice wine evening with in laws, time to get ready to leave Tianjin to head for Dhali, have to report still haven't seen anything of those Lander boys. Did meet a Saints fan in Beijing though. Good luck all today(tomorrow)
OMG. Just seen the saints facebook picture of Manolo selling the big issue! Are we all sure he got out the city centre, because I'm not confident!
Yoshi denying he is injured....I never thought he was. Should we be worried....is this a double bluff?
Been great in the League of Ireland last few seasons with Cork. About to pick up a league winners meadal
That tweet was from before the Swansea game, when there were rumours of him not being fit for it. No need to panic.
