Completely passed me by! £50,000 for the legend he became, 43 goals in that first season with us and later described by Sir Matt Busby as "the greatest centre forward in Europe". How much would we have to pay for someone of that quality now? I would guess about 1,000 times what we paid in 1966!
I was watching Wales play and Ron caught my eye (I think I was 8 or 9). He probably scored so the rest is history
I remember one game, in which Scotland beat Wales 5-3, and Ron scored with two headers of total contrast, unless I'm mixing my games up. My memory tells me that one goal was a looping, trademark, header and the second was a flat, bullet header from the near edge of the penalty box. He could head the ball harder than I could kick it.
http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.co...sing-room-ally-for-claude-puel-not-much-more/ A not very inspiring analysis of Pied. Described as more of a utility player that Puel trusts. Be interesting to see how he does in the rarefied air of the EPL.
http://sportwitness.co.uk/southampt...ing-quizzed-man-united-move-praises-mourinho/ Fonte open to offers. Let's hope there aren't any.
http://www.skysports.com/football/n...cts-jose-fonte-to-remain-a-southampton-player But Puel expects him to stay.
Offers from Real or Barca - he's not really said anything unexpected in that interview, no player would say no to those clubs.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/sa...rand_ruled_out_of_Southampton_opener/?ref=rss Bertrand to miss Watford game. No time frame given for his return from a recurrence of a knee injury.
That's concerning. He missed the start of last season due to two knee ops. Step up young Matty Target who did well last season.
Shame he's going to miss the opener but Targett is upto the job of stepping in. Vvd or Jose would be a bigger loss.
We have been written off by the wise heads of talkSports mid morning show as we haven't replaced anyone of any note 7 won't score enough as lost lots of goals in Pelle and Mane. How long can Saints keep selling their best players and loosing their managers? Lucky to finish 10th according to Colin Murray and his mates
Damn. Not much point turning up this week then - unless we think Watford might be fellow relegation candidates and this counts as an early six-pointer
