We had been selling our best players for years, we still do now, it wasn't because they didn't like Ralph that players left.It can obviously take time to rub people up the wrong way. When he came to the club he was probably just the type of personality we needed. But over time things change, and clearly his man-management skills were atrocious. We've heard this now from quite a few players during his time, and I (and others on here), have heard it from other sources connected to the club too. The players really, really did not like Ralph. That's not just me making it up. I don't know how it was at the start, but definitely this is how it was at the end. Now while the tactics are working and the results are positive, then I'm sure the playing staff are relatively okay with it. But when results turn, the tactics stop working, and the manager starts throwing you under the bus, then I can see why players didn't want to play for him.
Yes, there was a lack of investment, we all know that. But we still lost too many players we should have held on to, and we signed too many young players to replace them who didn't have what it takes.
I dont disagree that he clearly wasn't popular with the players - but that doesn't matter as long as he was respected. Even Bertrand who clearly fell out with him said he still respects Ralph now.
I think you're underestimating the impact being broke has in the premier league. Clubs spend £100m net and still go down, how on earth would any manager have kept us up with zero net spend for multiple seasons?
