I think it was a bit earlier than that.Chilcs. I remember at school being a rivalry between the teams, even though we didn’t play each other with the exception of one glorious Saturday afternoon in 1984 I also remember being at Fratton Park in 1987... jeez that was a sizzling atmosphere
OK but my point is that the rivalry didn’t exist back in the 60’s or 70’s when hooliganism was rife. It was a copycat thing that came about because the local nutters felt left out.
It proves my point. You can support both teams. This rivalry thing is rather a lot of twisted nonsense. I would hope most PFC fans (Safari Boy apart), would quietly hope Saints send Chelsea out of the Cup.
Now you can start the promotion thread. In all honesty Craig, do you think that Les Reed has deliberately engineered this situation? I don´t think so. What has really happened behind the scenes is a lot of guesswork. Speculating is fine but can be wasted energy.
To be fair Ides, Craig is only voicing an opinion that quite a few Saints fans have already voiced......me included. Edit....accept not necessarily deliberate.
Les had built up a lot of credit with me since 2009, but the way that he has run the football side of things so abysmally, this season particularly, has seen all of that credit evaporate and if we go down and fail to win the Cup (quite likely now), he will definately be in debit.
I accept your views as you are much closer to the scene than I am both in terms of location and emotion.
Les needs to be held to account. Mistakes have been made. I just don't understand people wanting to bin him off. Are there loads of better options out there, ready to come into our system that we don't even understand now. With our new owner who we don't know. Just imagine if Gao gave one of his sons the job instead, I imagine people might start regretting that damp looking baby on the floor next to the bath.
It was a genuine question, but your point is well made. I'd be really worried if we were run by metaphorical sons.
For me it is more that it is time for a change. Reed is 65 now so can't keep going forever and we have definitely been on the decline for the last 2 years so time to freshen things up. This Is with the caveat that Gao actually appoints someone with experience of running the football side of things at a club like ours, if that is not an option then long live King Les
Now in my mid-30's I can't help but regard the banter between most rival supporters as embarrassing. The worst for it are Spurs fans. If you know any, no doubt your Facebook feed gets cluttered with sad anti-Arsenal/Chelsea/West Ham memes. And this from lads in their forties and older. Inside the ground, fair game. But beyond it is just childish (unless it is particularly witty). I don't hate any club these days. Just my own, haha.
I feel little thinking about relegation, compared to 2005. If we go down, we fully deserve so and the reasoning is similar to before. Our board don’t give a ****e, and will try to come out of this smelling like roses. Can’t wait to see the majority of the team get sold in the summer. I expect very few first teamers to stay.
