Looking at the body language of most of the team, I would say they were all thinking much the same after the first goal went in. Instead of “bugger it, let’s get back up the other end and equalise”, it was more like “bugger it, here we go again, how long is it until the summer holidays?”

There were exceptions, Højbjerg tried but was ineffective, and Austin tried but had no service, but there was no sense of team spirit whatsoever.

I honestly think that half of them have given up before they even step out on to the pitch. I spoke to my Dads partner yesterday and she said that she'd read an interview with Bertrand where he was saying with x games left, it's all about management for the World Cup now for him. That's exactly how it has looked from Bertrand for a good while. He does the bare minimum. He's not the only one, but it's just not good enough, especially from our captain. They know they're outta here come summer. So why bust a gut trying to keep Saints up? Got to keep yourself fresh and injury free for the World Cup...

The only good thing is that I don't see Hughes standing for that bullshit.

If Bertrand said that, he needs to be dropped for that comment alone.

They merely have to leapfrog three or more teams (most of which have a significant edge in goal differential) with seven matches remaining, then win two playoff rounds. The odds are...not spectacular.

They are on good form. Won their last three without conceding. Star striker is back fit and banging them in again. They could be in the playoffs tonight. And seeing as the football gods seem to hate Saints at the moment, I'll put money on them staying there.

Then it's just 4/1. Hardly impossible.

If you averaged out the 2 lines we'd be very similar and it seems there's only room for one good Hampshire team at a time!

Funny how, over that period, our best time was Pompeys worst. And Pompeys best time was our worst. It seems we're not good at sharing!

Average positions for the period of time that the graph covers has:
- Saints 19th
- Pompey 40th

For my childhood they were nowhere. They appeared as my 20's disappeared, and then suddenly they were just so annoying, I started to understand what a great rivalry they were. But, no sooner had they got good, we got crap, and broke, then busted and nearly dead. So, it doesn't feel like we've been on the same level to me*. One spirals and the other flies. If we are both in the Championship next season, I'd bet my life it will be for one season only. ----whatever that means! <yikes>

Not being from Southampton I've never cared about Pompey. There are loads of other football teams I dislike far more. Cardiff, Liverpool, Leeds, Spurs off the top of my head.

being from Southampton and having lived in Cardiff, Cardiff are my no. 2 team and I love Leeds just because they provided SKD his greatest day!

This rivalry thing was invented in the late 90’s by the respective nutters from both clubs as far as I’m concerned. My dad’s generation were more likely to support both teams than fight with the others, and most of my generation had never really heard of Pompey.
