Looking at the body language of most of the team, I would say they were all thinking much the same after the first goal went in. Instead of “bugger it, let’s get back up the other end and equalise”, it was more like “bugger it, here we go again, how long is it until the summer holidays?”
There were exceptions, Højbjerg tried but was ineffective, and Austin tried but had no service, but there was no sense of team spirit whatsoever.
I honestly think that half of them have given up before they even step out on to the pitch. I spoke to my Dads partner yesterday and she said that she'd read an interview with Bertrand where he was saying with x games left, it's all about management for the World Cup now for him. That's exactly how it has looked from Bertrand for a good while. He does the bare minimum. He's not the only one, but it's just not good enough, especially from our captain. They know they're outta here come summer. So why bust a gut trying to keep Saints up? Got to keep yourself fresh and injury free for the World Cup...
The only good thing is that I don't see Hughes standing for that bullshit.
