Lewis Payne has gone on loan to Newport County for the season…isn’t he really highly rated in the academy?
RM was asked about youngsters going on loan and specifically players who have seen minutes in pre-season and sounds like he wants to keep them.
I think it’s about time we got back to treating the i21s as a reserve team and not a separate entity.
So often when we talk about the first team squad we think we need in every position, but the club should be more fluid.
Dom Ballard for instance should start this season as first choice for the U21s again, but also be third choice striker for the first team.
it sounds obvious but the initial point of ditching reserves and bringing in u21s was to use it as a reserve team, but it’s just become player factory for the league system.

Palace beat our u18s 7-1 earlier in the year iirc, so it's a slight improvement. Haha
Strong line up for the u21s today. Interesting to see how Abu gets on. No Awe though (injured??).
