Saints u21 lost 4 nil to Leyton Orient Saints: Bycroft, Abu (Davis 76), Hewlett (Carson 76), Simeu, Meghoma (Lett 76), Bragg (Stepien-Iwumene 76), Dibling (Edwards 58), Finnigan, Ehibhatiomhan (Ballard 58), Doyle (Andrews 76), Olaigbe (Robinson 58). https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/match/southampton-u21-vs-leyton-orient Ballard getting some minutes, so good to see a quick return for him. Will be nice to see if he gets a chance in the next two first team friendlies after disappointing displays from Mara
Not the best of signs from our young defensive players. Suggests as was pointed out in various posts that they are some way off even championship match day squads. Let’s hope it is down to fitness
Disappointing to see Doyle & Meghoma drop back down to the u21s, but suppose its (once again) hard to integrate them into a bloated first team who all need minutes. Good to see Ballard back from injury, and hope he'll get a 1st team chance soon.
Meghoma looks like he could do a decent job on loan in the lower leagues. He’s 5th choice left back as things stand and that’s not including Djenepo’s stints in the past. I saw a bit of the Goztepe game and I don’t think Doyle is a winger and I think he’ll be hard pushed to get in ahead of Charly or Smallbone as things stand.
Seems like lots of our players have been injured over June - across all the squads . Wonder what happened. People pushing through minor injuries at the end of the season maybe? Or bad luck?
