https://southamptonfc.com/news/2019-04-29/u23-highlights-southampton-sunderland-afc-premier-league-2 The highlights of Saints 5-1 win over Sunderland which puts them into the play offs v Aston Villa. Let's hope they get promoted....the understatement of the year to say that Saints were disappointed to get relegated last season as we are a team that prides ourselves on the quality of the Academy.
Watching the game last night and one that caught my eye was Will Smallbone, he seemed to be involved a lot, but at times seemed half a second off the pace, he got in to a number of really good scoring opportunities but none of them were on target. His penalty just had enough pace to beat the GK. I think he could be a very good player if he bucks his ideas up. Sunderland seemed to set out to rile Harry Hamblin, he has been a bit hot headed recently, this time he kept his cool, most of the time. The Sunderland No. 9 looked a bit of a handfull, may be one to look out for, Referees nightmare Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka! Good to see Marcus Barnes back on the score sheet.
Messiesque Mind you, he needed to do something after not taking the chance when played through on the keeper.
2-0 Through to the final. Really good performance considering the players who have been snapped up by the first team or injured. In control throughout.
Not the greatest game but we dominated the midfield and defence was solid as a rock, a bit short up front, but both strikers posed a threat. Villa didn't appear to have brought any strikers with them, but that could be down to the dominance of Klarer and O'Driscoll. They said 623 were present and they enjoyed the win. Who needs Messi when you have an O'Connor?
The greatest free kick we'll see this week.....until JWP scores against West Ham to make it 4-0 Saints. Did I say that out loud?
