My comment was fairly tongue in cheek as you can't really tell if someone's putting in a shift based purely on a couple of 10 second clips. He will no doubt be rusty and off the pace! But I'd have liked to have seen a bit more effort to chase back in the first goal and put a block in on the second.
TBF (not words we use easily when talking about Virgil), he has not played since January. Combine that with being pissed off about his non-transfer and being asked to play with the kids, he won't be anywhere near his best. Playing at all is one step forward I suppose, but he should do his best as respect for the team.
Looking at the clips of the goals it seems 3 of them were because of VVD in one way or another, either through lack of trying or fitness, one was a terrible back pass.
Villa kids have a cool story for later...... 'Never guess who was playing when we thrashed........' But in all seriousness, I'm starting to worry that Virg isn't as concerned about this season as he should be. V/poor.
If that twat is anywhere near our first team any time soon, I'll be mightily pissed. Clearly not interested.
Put my comments in the VVD thread as I went to tonight's game. We suffered the same as the first team. Fine and neat and tidy through the first two thirds and then falls to bits in the attacking third. Barnes runs around a lot but no real threat, Johnson very ineffectual and Tella threatens a lot until he needs to cross. Slattery looked classy and dangerous in the first half but didn't show much in the second Bednarek did well defensively and his distribution was excellent McCarthy had little chance with any of the goals Villa's no10, Callum O'Hare looked quality and ran the show
With a name like that there's surely some Irish in him! Hope we can poach him! Strong Villa team but seems a very poor result
Villa were strong for the first 15 minutes of both halves but Saints got control and knocked it around very nicely until they got anywhere near their goal. We had chances but couldn't take advantage. Generally speaking our crossing was poor and generally only had Barnes in the box marked by two CBs and Slattery marked by their two aggressive terrier CDMs It really was like looking at a microcosm of the first XI Villa didn't really use the width of the pitch but played on the break and passed & moved very quickly through the middle. Their finishing was excellent as they actually created very little. They also had a midfield general playing at no 10 Callom O'Hare who ran the show
Looking at the starting XI, we started with four centre backs, no dedicated left back, weak in midfield and no front man striker to win the the ball in the air, if this the only back ups we have for the first team, it is a real cause for concern. We had another centre back on the bench and Gardos was nowhere to be seen.
Very worth bearing in mind our most promsing (Reed, Olomola, Seager, Gallagher, Lewis) are all out on loan. Plus we have Valery, Flannigan, Sims & Hesketh injured. Still plenty of quality, but just not at the club or available. Not saying they're the answer, but too easy to say they're not good enough, coaches are **** etc, when all the best players aren't available.
Several players are getting no competitive minutes on the pitch at all, how will that help keeping them physically and mentally fit for when they are called upon. When there was a Reserve League as such, players were able to get a run out.
