Wanyama telling the press where he wants to go smacks of an attempt to either coax a bid -- or an improved bid -- out of someone. Would be surprised if it was us, simply because it would kill his agent's leverage.

Who said Wanyama had told the press? What about investigative journalism. Nixon has lots of contacts in Scotland, I am sure of as much.

If it isn't pure speculation, I'd imagine that it's the doing of someone in his camp. Given how close to the vest they've kept it to date, I doubt that Wanyama or his people would tip his hand in private to someone who'd blab to the media...these things tend to get out.
 
It could just be a quote saying he wants to play in the Premier League? Not too far-fetched as his agent has hinted at similar before and it wouldn't rule out a potential Liverpool/Cardiff etc. bid?

Where is everyone getting the idea of Wanyama making an announcement from?

Someone has just got hold of some inside info (be it Nixon, or someone he trusts), which is going in the newspaper.
