A few sources close to Saints (posters with contacts who work for Saints), say that the deal between Saints and Wanyama's representatives has progressed and, although not signed and agreed just yet, is close to being finalised. Wasn't expecting this curveball from Nixon. Can't see it from Everton tbh.

They're not totally different. Both powerful midfielders who are good in the air. Hard to see him as an exact replacement of course, but then who would be?

I dunno, but they'll be losing a massive goal threat if they sell Fellaini, and not gaining a new one with Wanyama. Surely he'd be looking at other goalscoring midfielders.

Nope, nor me... I still think it's going to happen.

Nacho Novo is training with Sevco. Would he be a good addition to your team?

lolzy

Fellaini is far more attacking than Wanyama.
Not disputing that, though Fellaini was a more defensive player before the last couple of seasons, and Wanyama would fill the void as well as anyone (still poorly, admittedly, but who in world football is like Fellaini? Javi Martinez maybe?)

Well I just racked my brain for some goalscoring midfielders, and obviously they tend to be very expensive, but a couple of names came to mind, such as Josip Ilicic from Palermo (now in Serie B and having financial difficulties) and Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV. Both got into double figures last season. They seem like more sensible targets, but then again I don't rate Roberto Martinez very highly so perhaps he won't manage Everton as well as I would. ;)

£12m would be a big fee for Everton as well. Not that it's impossible but it's not really how they do things.

Yeah they'll never be able to bring in anyone who can replace him. It depends, they could screw us over either way - Wanyama to fill the defensive void, or Banega to replace him in the attacking game (in terms of link up etc, the goal threat is surely gone whichever way they go). Thinking about it, Wanyama is probably a valid replacement - no point trying to get a direct replacement for Fellaini because it's realistically not going to happen.

From a Celtic minded website...

With Wanyama’s future still very much in the balance, Lennon added: “I need to speak to him and assess how he is feeling.

“I don’t have someone specific in mind to replace him if he goes but there are three or four players we like the look of.

“I won’t make a decision until Victor’s situation is resolved.

“I’d be delighted if Victor was here for the coming season, but I’ve reservations about that. It’s too big a deal not to go through.”

VICTOR WANYAMA’S £12.5million move to Southampton is back ON.

Neil Lennon revealed last night the Kenyan midfielder is holding fresh contract talks with the Premiership club. Saints tabled their whopping offer to the Parkhead club last month — which was accepted — only for the player and his agent to snub their deal.

Cardiff then entered the race before pulling out last week.

Lennon revealed: “We gather Southampton have reignited their interest.

“If nothing materialises he will play some of the next game on Tuesday.

“His fitness levels won’t be a major worry for me it’s just getting his football up to speed.”

Just as a heads up, everyone around the internet (mainly Saintsweb) who has any kind of reliable track record with inside information is saying things are very much on - the guy who broke the news Rodriguez was in the area on the day the picture surfaced (before it surfaced) has said "Big Vic will be a Saint". Not 100% reliable, but you know, it's all looking pretty good.

i expect positive rep from every ****ing single one of you when he does sign.

joost coz.
