Just to point out that Cardiff do not have lots of money; they are £80 million in debt and all of the money being put in by the Malayasians is reportedly a loan, so there is a very good chance that if they overspend this sumer then they could go under very soon. They are playing a very risky game

Yes they have a lot of debt, but that doesn't mean they don't have a lot of money available to spend. I don't think they are in as much trouble as you suggest, with the new TV deal they will recoup a lot of that debt just by being in the premier league (as long as they don't overstretch themselves of course).

With respect to Cardiff, choosing them over Saints is a question purely of £. If he's operating on that level, then good luck and good riddance.

To be fair Cardiff have been showing just as much ambition as us this summer. As well as being linked with Wanyama, they've been linked with Oscar Cardozo, which is pretty outrageous. They've also signed Tom Ince, and Andreas Cornelius. Both top players but Cornelius especially is an unbelievable coup; he has so much potential and I was really hoping Saints would sign him.

I would also say that Wanyama would be worth more to Cardiff than he would to us; we already have good players in that position, whereas they seriously need someone to increase their chances of staying up. So it's easier to imagine why they might want to throw a little extra money, if they have it.

With respect, that is not showing respect to Cardiff. They are one year behind us, but they have a lot of money and a lot of ambition, assuming they are an inferior proposition to us is ignorance of exactly the kind we were bemoaning in other clubs' fans last year.

Fair point. I did actually think that whilst writing that. However, we are a year advanced of Cardiff which is where my assertion was from. You are right though, we should be applauding their ambition rather than bemoaning it. I take my comment back - borne of frustration that he may go there!

The agent?

Yeah, could be any one of a lot of reasons.

They were never that interested anyway?
They don't think he's better than what they have?
He's better than what they have but not so much better that they're prepared to pay £12m to get him?

Going by who they sign and are linked with, Arsenal either buy players in their teens with potential, or players who are just passed their best. No wonder they havn't won anything in years.

Maybe half the players they sign fit that description. Cazorla, Giroud, Higuain and co are at the peak of their careers.

Wait until the conference goes up, I'm just working from this (ignore the Brazilian style spelling):

BBC Solent Sport ‏@solentsport 7m
Mauricio Pochettinho confirms deal to bring #celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama to #saintsfc is not dead

Adam Blackmore ‏@bigadamsport 2m
Pochettinho in good form today - #saintsfc boss candid about Wanyama deal, adding that it's the club who'll dictate timing of any signings

Well I think this is an "I told you so" moment for some people. Have to wonder though, if it's the club who will dictate timing of signings, why haven't they done more already?

Yeah I thought that was a bit odd too. Oh well, we'll get more detail later.

Hmmmm.....maybe not -

@alex_crook 17s
When I asked Pochettino if #saintsfc were still negotiating with Wanyama he said I could work it out from what he said about club's values

If he explicitly says it's not dead (though I'll need the exact quote to take proper stock) I'll trust that more than Alex Crook.
