My view on this is that Victors agent have walked away from NC's final offer. NC's has moved on to other targets and even if the agents came back cap in hand to accept, he wont be willing to deal with them.

I'm certain Nicola won't be that stubborn, refusing to make a deal that suits him for no reason other than to hold a grudge? I hope he puts professionalism ahead of petty one-upmanship.

Well I'd be extremely surprised if one of the press members in attendance tomorrow didn't ask Mauricio about this.

So lets just hold tight and see where we stand tomorrow.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Pochettino says the deal is dead even if it isn't though. He's not going to give Wanyama's agents anything to use against us in negotiations by saying "we want him".

I hope not, because that would make Cortese an idiot.

As far as we know, Saints are the only team to have a bid accepted. So if that stays the case he can either stay at Celtic or join us and have a presumably large rise in salary. His agents will have to split the 600k between them (if that's our offer) rather than hold out for 600k each, as otherwise their client will still be on the lower wages he is currently on at Celtic. Unless Cardiff or another team come in and have a bid accepted, I can only really see him staying in Scotland or coming here.

I don't think it's dead, in the first few days it felt like the press latched on to the story and a lot was said and written. But expecting it all to be done in two days isn't very realistic so hopefully now it's all calmed down, progress can be made. And if it can't and he is somewhere else, then good luck to him and we can move onto the next person in the list. I don't think his agent will walk away because he didn't get everything he (allegedly) wanted, and I don't think Nicola will kill the deal just because it didn't all come together in 10 minutes. The Ramirez deal didn't, did it?

<laugh>

Brilliant.

Think you should sue on copy write!

Poch seems a little more forthcoming on transfer business than Adkins, so think we will hear something tomorrow.

Glad Cortese has more nerve than many here. We have not heard that the offer has been withdrawn so I think we still have a chance.
Can't see him staying at Celtic following his outspoken frustration at not going to QPR in January.

The trouble is his attitude and that of his agents would mean one good season and he will want to be off to a bigger club.
Obviously we would benefit from a good season and be well compensated from a move but do we want such mercenaries?

If we do sign him, I hope people drop these little assumptions they've made about his character. We already have people disliking him before he's joined, for no valid reason.

Asked the guy who told me we were after Wanyama a few months back if he has heard anything. His reply was "not a ****ing clue" <laugh>

Does seem like everyone is in a holding pattern. Wanyama's people are waiting for the other shoe to drop, hoping that either Celtic folds and takes Cardiff's smaller fee, allowing Wanyama to get full dollar, or another team swoops. Cardiff's hoping that Celtic gets impatient and agrees to take a little less for the player to get a deal struck. Celtic's hoping that someone, anyone, gives them 12m and strikes a deal. Southampton's hoping that none of the above happens, leading Wanyama's agents to take the best -- and only -- available offer. And the other potentially-interested parties are waiting until either their preferred options or their transfer budget is exhausted.

Nothing quite like a five-way game of chicken.

The thing is, surely if Wanyama is happy with all of his fees and wage, and it's just the agent fee left unsettled, then he wouldn't let his agents stand in the way.

You'd think so, but Ivan Modia has previous - Steven Pienaar very publicly wanted to join Everton but Modia made it ridiculously difficult for them and stood in the way for long periods of time. He even joined Spurs for a bit.

Hopefully Victor's dad has convinced him to sort his agent out.

If negotiations were still happening at the time and if Wanyama has any intention of still coming here then his agent's comments about our offer being far too low and not having had any contact for weeks were pretty stupid.
