Never understood the media story that Mourinho planned a last minute raid....that would only work if we were trying to sell Fonte. If we don't want to sell him when we have time to replace him, why would we sell him on the last day of the transfer window. Crackers.

Jumping over a bar at 45cm??? Don't they call that the high jump?

It's to see if they have what it takes to dive if needs be.

45cm = 18in. Having met you I can see why you'd consider that a high jump but there are one-legged octogenarians who could manage it. Possibly even Godders.

The only way to read the Echo comments is as though they are intended to be humorous, otherwise you end up wanting to slash your wrists.

You know what, we're actually really quite clever, aren't we?

We've positioned ourselves as the best 'stepping stone' club in the world, which for a club of our size and standing is realistically the smartest strategy out there, and allows us to be very attractive to the best up and coming talent in Europe, interspersed with an element of good, experienced players.

    I like it.

Not sure on here we can use the usual footballing 'we', when crediting the club in this context, given the traditional annual meltdown and rampant use of plastic bedsheets! <laugh>

That rationalises the situation beautifully :emoticon-0102-bigsm.
I agree though, its not a bad situation to be in but I suspect that we are being reactive rather than proactive as I'm sure the club would like to attract good players and keep them one day, rather than just showcasing them for other buyers when they are proven.

Its good as long as everybody plays fair. When underhand agents get involved with underhand clubs, they have a way of unsettling weak minded players.
That be the only concern. But we've done pretty well so far.
