Agree with Joey if we get Vlaar and a decent winger, then i will be very happy with how it's all turned out in the end. Regardless though after everything I just can't wait to watch some ****ing football! 3 days to go <cheers>

Just read this:

"Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that he would "really like" for Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar to join him at St Mary's.

The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch away from Villa Park after emerging as one of the Netherlands' stand-out performers in this summer's World Cup.

A move to the South Coast has been mooted, with Koeman having worked with the defender at Feyenoord, and the Dutch coach admits that he is keen on a reunion with his "leader".

"Vlaar became one of the best Oranje defenders at us, at Feyenoord [my old club]," the Saints boss told Helden.

"And, at the last World Cup, he became one of the best of the tournament. He's a perfect addition to every group and a real leader. I would really like to have him at Southampton."

Vlaar's contract with the Villans expires next summer."

When was that written? I'm guessing before we signed Gardos, in which case I reckon Ron is done with signing CBs.

where was it posted

Would be happy with Vlaar, as he has experience, although I doubt that we are pushing to sign him. I think Ronald just answers questions honestly, and said he likes Vlaar, but doesn't necessarily mean it will happen.

Bet its peeing Villa off though

Well perhaps, but it's par for the course. It's the modern way i'm afraid, as speculation is always rife, and journalists always pester managers for controversial answers. Koeman answers honestly and openly, but I don't think he was out of order. He likes Vlaar, and says he would like him. Not much of a crime really, as it doesn't suggest we will get him. If a club should be frustrated with other people's transfer dealings towards their players, it is us.

Lambert loves to moan anyway, and so do the Villa fans. It is probably the only thing that keeps them interested these days, as their football is so mediocre. If people want to put a stop to this sort of stuff being said in the press, then journalists are the people to stop. They ask the questions, the managers and players answer them.

I'd have Vlaar if it's a case of Vlaar or no one, but I'd like to think there is a better prospect to bring in.

I doubt it. I think the fact Gardos has taken the #5 shirt indicates he'll be a starting CB. Vlaar as back up would be more than good enough for me. I doubt a 'better prospect' will want to come and warm the bench. I do hope we sign another CB though, it's a key area of the pitch and we are severely lacking.

I'm still pretty certain he has signed a new villa deal, but in reply to the above; if vlaar comes in I would fully expect our starting pair to be gardos and vlaar with Fonte as back up. Purely based on the amount that Koeman has been praising him.
