As I mentioned the other day it could be taken 2 ways. Either right now as in we are hopeful of raising funds to match Celtics asking price, or right now as in we hope Celtic will lower their price later in the window.
Doesn’t seem like Celtic have any reason to do the latter

Depends how MoR behaves, if he says he wants out then I’m sure Celtic will want to cash in and I don’t know the exact numbers, but i understand we’re in record territory for a Scottish sale if it’s post £20m

Celtic won't lower their price as they don't need to. The interest is clearly there but crucially, the player is not forcing a move, is playing well and has a long contract.

The fact that he isn't stropping shows why Martin likes him. He always talks about how important character is and that they look at that just as much as a players ability.

Yeah I don’t think we want players who will actively strop to force a move here. We’ve been on the wrong side of that too many times. Far too many. And all it shows is that they will do it again

Isn’t that what Ryan Fraser did at Bournemouth?
No. Fraser refused to extend his contract past the normal end of the season to play games interrupted by covid. His contract was due to expire at the end of June.

I wouldn’t say that was the same thing. It isn’t striking to force a move. It’s just someone behaving more like a normal employee than we tend to assume from footballers. But when you think about it, it wasn’t that unreasonable

Have there been many players people can remember who stripped or threatened to strike to come to Saints? And then how it worked out?

Because there have been plenty who didn’t who still did it to get out

Sadio Mane apparently did. And look at what happened there. We got absolutely screwed over on a transfer fee that should have been at least 50% higher than what it was if not double (even back then). Got basically mugged because we had no choice but to sell him when he wanted to go

And he's also (comfortably imo) the best attacking player to play for us this century.

That isn't what happened with Mane though. He had offers and wanted to leave the season before we sold him. We agreed to sell him if he gave us another season and he put in top performances in that season.

At least that is how I remember it.

And what would have happened if we hadn’t buckled to that agreement that ultimately saw us done out of at least 15m if not much more? We agreed to sell him but somehow got bounced into an agreement of selling at much lower price.

How so? I can't recall anything about is taking a cut price offer and not sure why we would have.

Yeah strange how we remember things differently. My recollection is Mane didn’t cause a stink, didn’t quote anything stupid/aggressive & I held him in high regard, not like a couple others who took the M62 west route.

Our next two games are huge. Not just because either or both of our opponents might transpire to be relegation rivals, but also because they could go a long way to determining whether we continue our momentum and togetherness from last season.

I still have no opinion on whether I want us to sign MOR or not (because I've never watched him before). But if we are going to sign him, I really hope it's in time to feature in these two games.
