I'm not Tom.

I don't really mean anyone specific on here - more the rabid Facebook idiots. I think we all agree that the board could and probably should have done a lot better. I can just see the 'must moan' squad using this as another magazine full of their bollocks bullets to load up with if he turns out to be less than a reincarnation of Maldini.

Well this is just bollocks though isnt it really? If he turns out to be **** then people will moan that we didn't sign a good centre back in January. Just like if we had signed a centre back in January who turned out to be **** people would moan that we didn't sign a good centre back in January. The only difference is that it looks like Caceres is our only option because he is a free agent. In January (in theory) we had our pick of loads of players from other clubs we potentially could've signed but didn't for whatever reason.

I think what is more likely from the serial Reed/board haters is if we sign Caceres and he turns out to be Maldini incarnate that they will say Reed/board got lucky as he was the only option.

You really spend to much time on the internet. If your that worried about what other fans are doing then may I suggest turning off the iPad/pc and having a break. Nothing has happened yet and you seem overly concerned how fans will react if a player we haven't signed turns out to be **** for us in 2 months time.

I'm fine, but thanks for your concern.

Not in the slightest worried about the reaction of fans, I find it amusing.

Just for your information, I don't have an iPad or a PC, and I find myself more concerned about the increasing commonness of mixing up "your" and "you're" than I ever even remotely worry about how fans might react to a given situation.

Honestly, if anything is bollocks it's the theory you're espousing there.

Blimey, it was just a throwaway comment hinting that a lot of people (on Facebook) would moan about anything they can get their hands on.

Wow!

I'm not sure there are many haters here, as you put it.

People have rightly noticed the Board and Les made a mistake. No one really thinks its on purpose, but why shouldn't it be pointed out?

Not being funny but we all jizz like an elephant bukkake party when they get it right, so only right for people to feel they are welcome to point out when its wrong.

I'm going to welcome Martin if he comes, and moan if he is **** or injured.

You could always go back to bed and see how getting out the other side works out for you <whistle>

Seem's like quite a trivial thing to worry about, each to their own i suppose.

On the Caceres news, I don't really know anything about him obviously he has been a top defender in his time, if he's cheap then it doesn't matter if he plays or not. It stinks of desperation but then again we have put ourselves in a desperate position.

Now your being facetious. That's you're prerogative I suppose.

Reactions: Saint Helen
Just looked on transfermarkt, the man is brittle.

16/17 he hasn't played.
15/16 he was available to play 17 times out of 52 possible games with 4 different injuries.
14/15 he was available to play 15 times out of 57 possible games with 3 different injuries.
13/14 was his last proper season, available to play 47 times (played 30) out of 55 possible games with just 2 injuries.
12/13 he was available to play 43 times (played 22) out of 53 possible games with 5 different injuries.
11/12 Available every game.... that can't be right.... played 32 out of 47 possible.

If there's one thing we're sure of, we don't mind taking a risk relying on injury prone players and those recovering from long absence. Not sure I agree with it long term, but in the situation we're already in, I'd rather have hime here than not.
Injury prone....if only he was short and ginger he'd be perfect [HASHTAG]#canonlydream[/HASHTAG].

Cacares was probably always on the radar but as a free agent there was no urgency to close the deal before the transfer deadline. Sakho would have been the panic buy.

There are other better, younger targets but for one reason or another they will have to wait until the summer.

People rightly get frustrated about the promise to replace Fonte but in truth, having 'plenty of time' in the window to sort something out is just part of the equation. Even supposing that black box analysis shows ability and character meet our criteria (which both eliminate Sakho by the way) you still need a player willing to come, a club willing to sell, a realistic price, an agent willing to accept our wage structure, a fit and healthy player, a belief in our vision.

The analogy with Charlie Austin is a good one. If he is fit then there is no reason why we can't get him up to speed and being a real asset for the team.
