Caceres and Gardos at CB for the U23s.
Still, not quite on the same level as that Chelsea U23 team we played the other month.
I cannot see any reason not to do this,.
If he's not ready to start then he's at least on the bench ahead of Gardos.
If he is ready then it gives options, with Stephens and Yoshida.
And if he's the leader some have said, then he could be perfect ot play alongside Yoshida until VVD is fit again.
And he's 29..... IF he proved to be very good, we could sign him longer term and get a good couple of seasons out of him.

Sunderland shouldn't be able to sign him as they have put into the premier league a full quota of 25 for the squad until the end of the season. Can only be changed in extreme circumstances. We have only put in 23 places so have 2 spare.

Guan 2.0 who is generally accepted as being genuinely in-the-know on Saints Web seems to be dropping hints that this might happen. Having said that he can be very cryptic so maybe I'm reading his posts wrong.
ITKs tend to be cryptic....it's so they can deny it later. I think Saints will sign a player sooner or later....may be now, but if not....will be in the summer. Or perhaps later.
