It's either:

Risk A: sign Caceres for 6 months as (minimum) cover for our back line potentially being a starter if he can get to full fitness

Risk B: don't sign a defender and go with what we currently have hoping that Yoshida and Stephens stay fit until Van Dijk is back

Both are risks it just depends which one we take. For me getting an extra body is is the least risky, especially on a short term deal

I don't even know if he is any good but if he can play at CB then FFS get him in. We have reached that point

No brainer to me, get him in. For what it will cost it's not even a gamble in today's market. His experience would be priceless, and boy, does he like a tackle or 5. Think he is the kind of player who would pretty quickly become a crowd favourite.

its almost comical how we deal with transfers now days. If this was any other club I'm pretty sure the majority of us would be ripping them big time.

Shouldn't this be Saint Martín!?

Doesn't bother me either way, don't think he will do more than hang around with Stuart Taylor though.

Far more then a hang around if he can get back to his form of Juv.

He hasn't played a match since about 1992 though has he? So we won't see him until after the cup final, then VVD will almost be back. I basically see Bertrand as our 4th choice CB now. Actually, maybe he'll turn out good and we'll sign him for another year.

Exactly. Even if he were to sign this week, I don't think anyone would be expecting him to feature straight away vs Sunderland. So realistically, that only leaves Watford away this side of our trip to Spurs on March 19th. Which itself is then followed by a fortnight off, due to the international break. If Virgil isn't back for Spurs, then hopefully he'll be back after that international break.

So yeah, there's every chance that he won't actually kick a ball for us, like Taylor. Not that I'm saying I don't want him, mind.

Could be seen as a Fonte replacement for now, and if he can get up to speed quickly and become an asset, it could mean not having to rush VVD back, causing another injury?
