They are saying that of the money paid by Southampton Bologna has to pay too much on to agents and Penarol to make it viable to them as Ramirez is too important a player. In other words they can't replace him with the money remaining, so it is not worth it.

I have always thought that these high sell on fees (as we reportedly have on AOC) could block a sale.

Because its on wikipedia it has to be true - eh... okay. How do you know what trouble Bologna has gone to - you have a source in their club? Or its it what you read on the web - the same sources that tell you the deal is off - only you choose not to belive the latter - or am I being subjective?

Come on, it's undeniably true that they faced bankruptcy and were taken over by a fans' consortium. You can find information about it anywhere, just google it. Everyone says they're broke, and the fact they would consider selling one of their best players shows that by itself.

This is daft. We have never been clear on it, but I very much doubt the club would have negotiated with them and agreed terms without being clear about this. That would be ridiculous.

My limited understanding is that clubs can buy a stake in a player and when that player is sold on - you have to agree terms with both clubs. So even though we do a deal with one, we need to negotiate with the other also.

Sure, but it's hard to imagine saints would have negotiated and not been clear about whether it was that or a sell-on clause.

Anyway, this quote is coming from Bologna, in whose interest it is to imply the deal has collapsed to put pressure on Cortese and co to raise the offer or whatever. I'm not buying it.
