So this explains Bologna wanting to see our bank details, their bank has probably demanded it on the basis of securing the financing for the loan payback.

Seems Bologna have been leaking stuff about the deal to cover over some rather worrying financial problems of their own to appease fans.

They need the money.

I think Cortese must know (or think he knows) how much Bologna need this deal to go through. If he's right then they will allow the transfer to proceed. If he's wrong, then he always has the option of acquiescing slightly and saying "ok here's another million up front". Bottom line is if he wants the deal to go through, he has the means to make it happen.

It has nothing to do with the fee. The deal has been agreed, the payment plan is in place and the terms have been sorted between us and Ramirez. The only thing this transfer depends on, is whether Bologna can convince their bank to give them a loan secured on the payments we have guaranteed them.

That is what it looks like from comments of Simon Peach and others on Twitter this morning, anyway.

Hooray..! I read it the same way. Could we be right..? :)

Anyone know anything about banking? How likely is this?

Well I guess in simple terms, the bank will only loan Bologna the money if they feel they have a very good chance of loan repayments being completed and on time. To do that they may need to see proof that Bolgona will have the income to do this and so proof that Southampton have the funds to essentially repay the loan for Bologna through the monthly payments for the Ramirez transfer but also that Bologna as a business are not going to go broke before the loan is repaid.

I know nothing about banking, although from that, at a distance, it does appear as if they make up the rules as they go along, and most certainly to suit themselves. So when my bank asks me if they can do anything further for me [except for my bare minimum requirements], I answer, No thank you, before the first syllable of the question has left the manager's mouth.

And if Saints can't be trusted to have the funds, nobody can.

Not a case of saints, it's a case of whether Bologna can be trusted to find the funds, which any sensible bank manager would conclude they cannot! But we will see whether Bologna want what we offered, or nothing. I'm pretty confident they will take what's on offer.

I swear the general media has flip flopped so much on this. Give it a couple of hours and some new twist will come out, about how Gaston no longer feels comfortable here because the tea lady felt him up or something.

In fairness, the British media has been far more reserved on this than the Italians. Probably due to what we mentioned last night.

Press Association carried the original story, the bid, the stalling, now the reason.

Certain Italian outlets have been reporting to cover Bologna's short-comings it seems.

It's like I said - they know no more than we do. But they have to sell papers...

Yep, but they have no interest in covering up Bologna's shortcomings, other than the fact that's clearly who they are getting their info from.

Yes, I am well aware of that, but the Italian bank is looking for guarantees that money will be forthcoming from a football club. Ultimately, Saints are providing that money, so ultimately, the bank is looking to make sure Saints have the funds.
