86 pages of talk over this. I say we delete this thread and pretend it never existed. Anyone caught in public talking of it would be breaking forum rules and be punished accordingly.

While this is firmly tounge in cheek I do think it was a bit daft of lamballana (sp) to start a thread like this.

But at the time it looked a done deal. There is always a "Saint *insert new signing here*" thread!

In fact, when Gaston does finally sign, I'm going to start another one.

Yeah, plucky little Southampton should get ideas above their station, should they?

I mean, what are we thinking, trying to buy good players?

I meant at this moment in time, great to get ramirez and it does show the ambition but just think to pull this one off now difficult, as been proven. Jesus why is everyone so touchy on this site.

People need to understand more about what his agent said. His agent ruled out a move to our main rivals for Ramirez (Liverpool and spurs) and also suggested the player will return to play for Bologna (exactlywhat the Bologna chairman dosen't want). His agent is, if anything, helping us try and get it done. They clearly needour money to stop their bigger financial issues being outted.

But the only thing stopping the transfer appears to be the financial issues of the other club? How are we punching above our weight if we can afford the player and he wants to join us?

Most sensible thing you've said yet, congrats!

we obviously dont have the funds to push through the deal. Dont get me wrong, £12 m is a lot of money and I feel we prob tried to get him knowing they were in the thick and brown, on a payment plan that was very appealing to us, obviously not appealing to bologna. I just feel this amount of money alhtough alot, isnt hideous in football terms and if a man utd, liverpool, city etc... were agreed on the fee the deal wouldnt collapse based on payment terms, never seen it happen before. That is why I feel we have tried to nab a cracking player but on cracking terms for us, not bologna.

No harm in it and by sounds of it very nearly came off (it still might do). But being honest, would it surprise you if he joined liverpool or spuds next week for £12 million ?

Yes we do, now maybe you should just keep quiet for a bit.
