The rumoured fee which West Ham paid for Summerville was £25m potentially arising to £30m. So if Liverpool want £25m for Carvalho - who I like, but isn't the quality of Summerville - then they can keep him.

I think £15m was a fair offer from us. If it's not enough for Liverpool, then fine, move on.

Allegedly Summerville had a release clause which tied Leeds’ hands when it came to valuing him

If we want these players, we have to pay the going rate. Unfortunately we seem unwilling to do so.

I’m sure we’d be willing, but FFP restricts how much money every club can spend, especially clubs that just get promoted and have premier league expenditures on their 3 year period.

So far it seems similar to the first season with SR in charge, trying to spread the money thin to cover lots of areas. We do need lots of areas addressed, and we obviously aren’t going to be spending £20m+ on all the areas, but if we want our main targets we are going to have to up our budget I think

So Charly Alcaraz is a reject then? Bit harsh.

I mean, he’s not had the same journey with Saints that Carvalho has with Liverpool. He was actually an important player for us for 1/2 a season and hasn't been with us as long. But yeah, you could probably say that Alcaraz is a Saints reject at this point as we are all in on RM and he doesn't fit in with RM tactics.
I don't really think it's harsh. I really like Alcaraz as a player regardless. Likewise I think Cavalho could be a good signing for us. Doesn't stop him being a Liverpool reject (or cast-off if that is a less harsh way of putting it) and doesn't stop me being annoyed that being a Liverpool player somehow makes you worth £10m more regardless if you've barely ever featured for them. They make sizeable profit on their rejects for no discernable reason other than because they are Liverpool players and that annoys me, and I will happily admit that it probably annoys me more because I strongly dislike Liverpool anyway.
Anyway, I would be happy if we sign Cavalho, but don't think we should be spending any more than £15m on him really.

Also maybe worth noting that Carvalho has turned us down twice before (when he left Fulham then when he went on loan last year) so he doesn’t seem quite as bothered about us as we seem to be about him
It was more that we weren't prepared to pay the loan fee to Liverpool in January according to Blackmore. He said that Carvalho and Martin had great talks and player was keen on the move. He was obviously happy to go to Hull as well but he didn't actually turn us down by all accounts.

Carvalho is by no means a reject. I read recently on a scouser blog that, because of his age he now needs to be named in the first team squad and therein lies the problem. He is behind the first choice No. 10, seemingly his natural position, and his prospect of first team football is limited. As he obviously wants more playing time, but is not likely to get it and he takes up a slot on the roster, so Liverpool begrudgingly have decided to let go, as their is no point keeping him constantly out on loan. So looking to cash in.

I think it probably makes sense - by playing at Liverpool, he has a few Champion's League appearances under his belt, and no Saints reject has got close to that kind of experience. Have better levels of coaching over those years, worked under Klopp, better quality loan experience etc. Got to be some value attached to that.
