So I just found out some interesting stuff about Osvaldo.

He has a life-size statue of Mick Jagger in his front room and has a Mini painted in the colours of Argentina with Maradona's face on the door.

I did find it strange that he chose to play for Italy. I understand switching allegiance if you escaped from a hell hole and are grateful or if you came over so young that you identify with your new country, but not changing to Italian when you arrive as an adult. Did he feel that he would never play for Argentina...like Fox discovering his inner Scot.

To be fair, look at the Argentina strikers at current...

Messi
Aguero
Higuain
Tevez
Lavezzi
Palacio

I mean, he would probably have got in there but playing time would be fairly limited.

Somebody pinch me now! Did that week just happen? Rickie picked for England, then comes on to score the winner in the game against the Auld Enemy with his FIRST touch. Rickie then scores a 90th minute winner at West Brom in our first game of the season. Then right at the end of the week we sign Osvaldo! Somebody tell me I am not dreaming?

Cortese wants people to sit up and take notice of our team. The last week has certainly gone a long way to doing that and showing the clubs intent. Well done Rickie AND Cortese!

Ok I will re-re-phrase it. Assuming this guy is a regular starter (safe to say we didn't spend 15m on an impact sub) what will our rough line up be for the majority of games when we can play the high press?

Said another way will we play with 2 strikers (1 deep) and 2 creative types or will we have 3 strikers with jrod to one side getting back to defend and rickie deep?

same answer from me. The manager will make those decisions based on opposition, form of opposition, form of our players, etc. It also appears that right now we have a 12m impact sub in Gaston until he gets a chance and impresses .... not a bad position for little old Saints.

League Cup fixture against Barnsley seems a great opportunity for Osvaldo to start a game and get to know team and player a bit.

Now we have two great option up front. I don' think we will drop Lambert, i think MP will tweak our style a play a bit to accomodate these two brilliant strikers. I'm guessing there will be a lot of interchanging, switching positions.

Basicaly, a solid back 6 with the tasks of defending and supporting...

Clyne-Yoshida-Lovren-Shaw
Wanyama-Schneiderlin

.... and vastly interchangeable front four with Lambert, Osvaldo, Ramirez and Lallana ideally, and other also, it's a long season.

Italy's strikers have potential to get a lot better. There's a few names not on there who will be by the World Cup.

Seeing the thread title has been changed made me wonder: I hope we haven't been fobbed off with Pablo's less talented twin brother or something...
