I guess they hope that a successful World Cup will drive the price up. The question is which teams can both pay substantially more and need someone in his position. Perhaps Arsenal if they qualify for the champions league

From everything we've heard PSV were definitely making it seem as though there was a deal to be done here and have just taken us for a ride before changing their mind on the final day. We even supposedly reached a price they were happy with. Our only hope seems to be Gakpo being completely sold on the move, being annoyed by PSVs behaviour and kicking up a fuss and pushing for the transfer. But even so, with Leeds supposedly having offered more, we'd either need Gakpo to only want to come to us (sounds more like he wanted a move to the PL) and then either PSV to accept a lower offer than what Leeds have offered, (which seems unlikely) or that we match it to get the deal done (which I'm also not convinced we'd do). Just waiting for some kind of quote or response from Gakpo before fully accepting this is dead.

According to British colleagues, Southampton was convinced of the purchase of Gakpo for 34 million pounds (40 million euros). Leeds came to Eindhoven via Orta to hijack a deal and offered more. In the end, PSV got away with the proverbial leg. PSV keep Gakpo's legs.

So do we get his head?

Proverbial leg ?

There's still something else we could try.

There was a tweet earlier saying PSV will be default be losing €40m this year just by operating. So i imagine they will be looking to sell him or Sangare in January or maybe both next summer? And / or gambling on price increases

Not sure we’d want to play their games by that point unless we really really want the players and haven’t identified alternatives of interest

Interestingly (or not) a private jet took off from Southampton heading to Amsterdam this afternoon. It's probably nothing to do with Saints or Gakpo but hey, worth pointing out.

The same airline service that flew back this morning. Provably nothing, but I'm not ready to give up on this yet.

Sky sports have just said it isn't dead. <cool>
Eh - they need people to keep watching

And I’m slightly concerned that any mentions of him today have been all Leeds. It seemed the same last night when it came to prominent media sources. It just sounds like we have been completely gazumped here - unfortunately

He might still move. But if he does I can’t help but think it will be to Leeds
