If we get this deal done it would be the most delicious of icings on the biggest of cakes. It would be an absolute stunner of a transfer window.

Viktor Tsygankov has the same agent as Gakpo. Dinamo Kiev player is seen as a very serious reinforcement for PSV. Wait and see if this works.

Southampton are still working on a deal for PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo despite their impending arrivals.

The Athletic has reported that Southampton are close to signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal on loan with an option to buy, while they are also confident of bringing in Manchester City youngsters Samuel Edozie and Juan Larios.

Southampton will, however, only consider a deal for Gakpo if it remains reasonable and are not willing to overstretch themselves in pursuit of the 23-year-old.

The Athletic has previously reported that Manchester United had considered a move for Gakpo. The Old Trafford club have, though, reached an agreement to sign Ajax forward Antony.

Southampton have already signed players this summer, with Armel Bella-Kotchap, Romeo Lavia, Joe Aribo, Sekou Mara, Gavin Bazunu and Mateusz Lis all joining Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.

Gakpo came through the ranks at PSV and made his senior debut in 2018. He has gone on to play 143 times for the Dutch side, scoring 46 goals.

Last season, he managed an impressive 21 goals in 46 games across all competitions. The Netherlands international has begun this campaign in much the same vein, netting four times in his first eight matches.

Following their 2-1 win over Chelsea on Tuesday, Southampton are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

British sources report that [HASHTAG]#saintsfc[/HASHTAG] is currently willing to pay £30million (and some extras) for Gakpo. Would be a record buy for Southampton. No confirmation yet that PSV will accept it. It remains exciting for now.
