Club statement from Sunderland AFC.
In light of Adam Johnson's guilty pleas, the club has today terminated his contract with immediate effect.
The club will make no further comment.

Wonder if they'll go after him for damages? Lost transfer fee/Reputational damage to the club. They were clearly as surprised as us with the guilty plea.

Well I am pleased this is all over, I have resisted posting on this subject while the case has been ongoing, but I have to say that we have all been let down. The fact that the club have acted today makes it clear that dis pit some comments from visitors to this board he has lied to the club all along sticking to his not guilty plea until the court yesterday.

We move on he is no longer a professional footballer and no longer anything to do with the club. I do hope that we can sue him for damages as he should not be able to live well of his earnings after he gets out.
 
Makes me sick to the stomach, knowing full well he was guilty all along.

He's mugged the club off, the players, the backroom staff, but worst of all he's mugged each and every one of us fans off.

Hope he rots in prison.

He's tarnished Sunderland AFC, the club I love, for a long long time.
