What a waste.
When he joined us I was over the moon, a quality player and a local as well.

He did have periods where he played well and if I remember correctly, was our top scorer last (or before) season.

The lad could have been a legend here (for good reasons) but he self destructed and was never really consistent on the pitch.

There are no winners here, just a sad end to what we all hoped for when he arrived.

Now it's past, it's over. Time to look ahead.

Can't stand Fat Sam so hope you go down
Love Defoe so hope you stay up
My conflict runs deep

But Johnson is scum and imho Sunderland had an impossible choice. .. they could of sack or suspended him before the trial and if he had been found innocent they would have punished an innocent man (like Southampton did with their manager ... Dave Jones... back in 2000).
Instead they chose to treat him as innocent until proven guilty. ..they sacked him when he pleaded guilty to 2 charges.
So this does not reflect badly on Sunderland. .. it simply reflects what he is.

Sunderland go down, Defoe signs for a proper premier league club, conflict over!

I think it would be difficult trying to sue him to get his wages back as he was fulfilling his contract and playing/working for SAFC.
Don't know if they could go for loss of sell on value or any other stuff though, be interesting to see if SAFC do chase any compensation or damages from him.
Oh and yes, sacking him was spot on but I felt it was a tad late, I think they should have hoofed him out after he admitted his guilt but they obviously had to go through the legality of that process unless he sued for unfair dismissal??

The sacking was reported the next day, however I reckon the decision to sack must have happened in the few hours after the guilty plea - the time needed to confirm the decision and get legal representatives in the same room and inform them.

Unlike most of his girlfriends.

It was inevitable and the club should be commended for acting so swiftly...It is hard to see any circumstances where he can play football in this country again..

I doubt Johnson will ever play in this country again , Ched Evans still isn't playing.

Maybe a Chinese club will take a punt on AJ when he gets out , if he isn't too old by then.

Personally , I don't want to even see him playing for a pub side on Sunday mornings.

Maybe an Arab team may come for him.
He should feel at home with them.
