I agree mainly with what you are saying...people in the present can't be held responsible for the past. As they say the past is another country. However, that also applies to Western civilisation. Why be particularly ashamed? Do you think nasty things weren't happening in all countries in the past? Feels like we've been at it more in modern times that others. I'd sit Bush & Blair at the same table as Hitler & Stalin.
