Good shout, but South America had it in 2014, while the Far East hasn't had it since 2002. Plus, China is super-rich, and super keen to grow a footie culture. And everyone is really brown-nosing China these days. No way I can see any country taking the WC from them, especially not a minnow like Uruguay.

EDIT: Oh, 2030? Surely that's got to be a Euro one.

China certainly will get one soon enough, just don't think it will be 2030. Why would it be Europe though? We'd have had one more recently than SA.

I'd be absolutely astounded if Uruguay aren't one of the hosts. The idea has been there for years.

If Europe doesn’t get 2030, it will be at least 16 years before they host another, 20 if China get 2034. I can’t see that happening.

I don’t like sharing the World Cup, increases travelling, increases supporter cost.

Anyway, this is well worth a five minute read:

Europe is supposed to host it every 12 years. At least that's how it used to be. Don't think it's changed.

Wash my mouth out with carbolic, but I think England might do well at the WC. Then a calamitous blunder will be their undoing.

Was thinking the other day, if Spain do win the world cup then GOAT Sergio Ramos must be a shout for Ballon D'Or? Captain of World Cup winning team and CL winning team

Frustrating that it has gone to USA again, but it isn't their fault that nobody else of any note decided to bid. If Australia had gone for it, you can almost guarantee they would have got it. An Aussie(/New Zealand) World Cup is just waiting to happen. Now they will have to wait until 2038 probably (2030 - Europe, 2034 - China).

EDIT: Saying that there should at least be a rule saying that countries must wait 30 years until they can host again, thus barring the USA from getting it too often. If USA had been barred then that would have encouraged more nations to bid. If there had still been no interest, it would have been opened up to Euro nations.
Surely even with that rule the USA could still host in 2026? 32 years will have passed since they last had it.

Or do you mean you have to wait 30 years before you can bid? Making it more like 40 years between tournaments.

You'll finally get to see the majesty of the Canadian national team on the biggest stage.

Really, I'm less concerned about sharing the World Cup around as I am about holding it in places that have ready-made facilities, or can easily retrofit existing facilities for such. Holding it in poorer countries would be fine if FIFA was willing to compromise on facility size and features to make it affordable, but they won't, nor will they help to shoulder the burden.

Yeah I didn't do the maths. 40 is better!

Article in Telegraph that suggests we may mount an offer for the 2030 WC with a joint bid by the home nations. That would mean that they'd all qualify. :) The FA said they wouldn't try again until the system is more transparent, but the feeling is that it is now. I don't share some people's concerns about some poorer countries not getting a major tournament as the problems with putting it on in a place without the infrastructure are horrendous....and (as with the Olympics) you end up with stadia too big for the local economy to support subsequently. The use of multiple countries may make it more feasible for such regions.
