Taken from Port Vale's twitter "Port Vale can confirm that the club is in discussions to sign Lee Hughes. He will have a medical tomorrow with a view to joining"

This is bad news as him and Pope will be hard to defend against.

Lee came down with 'The Baggies' about ten years ago not long before they sold him on.
He sped on to a smart through ball in the opening minutes, having Barry Ashby tripping over
his own feet, and smashed it in the net. I remember putting my head in my hands!
Hopefully after all these year he is not that quick any more.

Just imagine whelpdale, Weston and barcham playing freely behind burton or kedwell! There's the goal machine for you!

Or just barcham to push Weston and whelpdale. Just saying it wouldn't be a bad thing! Great over for injury!

I would not mind the signing of Scotland and McDonald that would be really good but Barcham and McDonald is a no for me as I don't feel that we need Barcham and I don't think it will happen.

A strong source has confirmed talks between Gillingham and Robin Shroot of Stevenage and Daryl Murphy of Ipswich are close to being completed.

I throught Murphy was only on loan at Ipswich?

Shroot is another midfielder... is this the end of Payne's Gillingham career?

I've checked and Murphy is on loan there until next August. He looks on paper as if he would be a good aquesition but as he's on loan I can't see that happening, and Shroot is on contact until 2015. He asked for a move earlier in the season ,then he signed an extension. He again would be good, but to be honest I can't see either happening. Do people just make these stories up, but you would think they would have done some research into the story, becuase I, for example, have never heard of either of these players before, so someone somewhere must have thought they would suit us?

I had heard of both of them but don't think this is true.

trying to hijack this deal would suggest to me that we are nowhere near to signing any sort of striker despite the rumours especially at fever pitch on twitter!

There's no way you would get Daryl Murphy unless you can match his £20K a week wages! I've heard that Jason Scotland is joining you with a view to a permanent in the Summer.

Like jayGills, i'm guessing any other deals that we had been working on had fallen through for whatever reason (wages) and lee hughes was a very late call that i'm glad never happened.

Jason Scotland coming to us....I don't see it somehow !

i reckon the lee hughes bid was just an attempt to delay it so he hadnt signed for vale by the time they played us! Conspiricy theory!!!

KSN reckon Cody is on 6 grand a week. That will be a stumbling block if true ( and it probably is seeing as he cost 400,000 and got a 3 year contract whilst they were in the championship ) but he's not likely to get that much again, so I would expect him to refuse to move until his contract is up or someone can loan him and pay part of his wages. Coventry must try to get rid of him if he's on that sort of money, but not in the managers plans.

With all this talk about Cody and previously Lee Hughes, how does this affect anyone of Keds, Burton, Birchall's position at the club?
