True. But look at the top scorers for those teams in 3rd and 4th place last season:
Leeds: Piroe - 19, James - 12
Burnley: Brownhill - 18, Zemming - 12
Sheff Utd; Campbell - 10, Cannon - 10
Sunderland; Isidor - 12, Mayenda - 8
I think a lot of Burnley's success was due to only conceding 16 Goals all season - that is mad!Genuinely shocked no one got 20+ (at least from those top four sides).
They must have really shared the goals around considering Leeds and Burnley got 100 points.
So as mentioned in the match day thread, I had looked into our 3 strikers(not included Downs) time at Saints, specifically their actual minutes played and their goals scored.
This data is taken from Transfermarkt and includes all league, FA cup and EFL cup matches. Minutes played only count the 90 regulation minutes and do not include any additional time.
Prior to tonight it looked as follows:
1st Place: Adam Armstrong 9649 mins/34 goals. Has played equivalent of 107.211 matches = a goal every 3.153 matches.
2nd place: Cameron Archer 2131 mins/7 goals. Has played equivalent of 23.677 matches = a goal every 3.382 matches.
3rd place: Ross Stewart 765 mins/1 goals. Has played equivalent of 7.388 matches = a goal every 7.388 matches.
Now it looks like this:
1st place: Ross Stewart 750 mins/3 goals. Has played equivalent of 8.333 matches = a goal every 2.777 matches.
2nd place: Adam Armstrong 9724mins/34 goals. Has played equivalent of 108.044 matches = a goal every 3.177 matches.
3rd place: Cameron Archer 2136 mins/7 goals. Has played equivalent of 23.733 matches = a goal every 3.390 matches.
I was going to post something yesterday regarding this and I was going to say because Stewart has played so little minutes, when he does score goals his goals per match will have a greater increase than the other 2, especially Armstrong who is close to 10000 minutes for us.
Stewart has now jumped to our most prolific striker in a mere 85 minutes spell, glorious!! So happy for him, long may it continue!!
Think Stewart now should be 850 mins instead of 750 (was at 765 before) so a goal every 3.148 matches which still keeps him just about ahead of Armstrong.
It is amazing that this is third season and he has barely managed to play 7 games. Thanks for highlighting the error Jack, appreciate it. I have double checked and the mistake is actually the minutes played prior to yesterday's match! I have corrected it on the original post as it should have read 665 mins.
I would like to say I did that deliberately to see if anyone was paying attention but no, that was a complete cock up on my part.
His goals stay at 1 goal every 2.777 matches(edited again as I worded it completely wrong!).
..and scored 3 goals in those 7 games. That is actually a good amount considering how little he has played as in stop start stop startIt is amazing that this is third season and he has barely managed to play 7 games.
If he stays fit then he will be a huge asset..and scored 3 goals in those 7 games. That is actually a good amount considering how little he has played as in stop start stop start

It might be over dramatic but we can probably write off this season. I think they were relying on him picking up his lower league form. We can’t seem to score goals and we as usual can’t defend. System doesn’t seem to suit archer or Armstrong as lone strikers. You must log in or register to see media
