Surely part of his contract requires him to play football for Sunderland so his reluctance to play must be a breach of contract so if not a sackable offence it must be open to a civil case for compensation i.e. repayment of wages at least.
But hes claiming that hes fully fit isnt he?

Yeah, but saying he doen't want to play for us, therefore he doesnt have injury as an excuse not to play.

Surely he has broken the terms of his contract by not reaching anywhere near the standard expected of him.. The bloke is an absolute leach..

I was under the impression that he says is happy to play for us at present and is up for selection cos hes fully fit but would prefer to play elsewhere.

Exactly - I do mostly contract work these days and my clients can terminate my contract with a weeks notice or on the spot if they feel like it.
It all depends what is stated in his contract - and who was responsible for the content of said contract (Maggie Byrne?)

I understand your thoughts Marcus but I think he's worse for the club. I reckon he would get himself sent off if forced to play.
Not according to Chris Coleman today who's said that Rodwell said he doesn't want to play for Sunderland:

remember that game when he was on a yellow and then deliberately knocked the ball out of the keepers hands with his hand to get sent off - makes you wonder
Suppose that would save the club £140k! (A club can fine a player up to a maximum of 2 weeks wages for a red card - same applies when breaking the rules. Personally, if I was Coleman, I'd fine him for stating that he doesn't want to play for Sunderland and keep fining him until he does!!!!
