Maybe you were joking but I think you are spot on. Instinctively he's OK, when he has time to think about it, not so good. I still have one major concern about him and that is his ability to play with his head up (i.e. his awareness of other people when he is on the ball). Although its great that he is scoring, I would like to see some assists from him.

I wasn't actually joking, I think he's a lot better when he's not given time to overthink what he's doing. The vast majority of his goals come from good, quick work in the box rather than placed finishes after being given a lot of time, and I also don't think his vision when running with the ball is that good. He can work on it, I'm sure.

Like his assist yesterday? Or his assist against Fulham?

I kind if get the point, but think Jay's direct runs often cause enough problems.

Let's be fair, neither of those are exactly open field creative genius. I'm not sure he intended his assist yesterday, it kind of bounced off him, and his assist against Fulham was flicking on a corner.

He obviously enjoys and is excelling in Pochettinos system. But massive credit has to go to JRod too. He is the fittest player in our squad and kept himself in fantastic shape over the summer break. He has bulked up too and is much stronger on the ball then he was when he first came here. Bargain.

Who would you play the pacy winger in place of? And in what formation?

One out-and-out striker, Rodriguez on one side, Lallana in the middle of an attacking midfield trio, other pacy forward/winger on the other side. We're at our best when those positions are treated as advisory-only, anyway.

On Jay, I'm most surprised by how good he has been in the air this year. He has a couple lovely headed goals, but he has also created a number of chances for teammates via won headers.

But in place of who? Davis I presume, but he's been a fulcrum. Nice thing it have for a plan B though, for sure.
Whom. Also, nobody! Play the best team for the situation. Sometimes a winger will be suitable, other times not. Sometimes he would be effective off the bench. At the very least, I'd like us to have the option in the squad.

:) < is the closest I can get to smug grin smilie. I can't be bothered to trawl back through all those threads were people were knocking him.

To be fair a lot of the criticism at the time was fair - his finishing was pretty poor last season (hence why he only scored 6 goals). But he has been excellent this season.

If Rodriguez keeps going like this then he'll give himself a great chance of going to the World Cup, especially with Defoe hardly even playing.

but some of us stuck by him, held back on the criticism as he was only 22 and in his first year in the Prem. He is still learning and all the signs have been there from the start that he can be a very, very good footballer.

Rodriguez is sick, he is totally ream.

Sorry only Essex boy dtlw May understand that.

Bless him, as soon as the ball crosses the line he looks across at the linesman to make sure it's been allowed. He has had a few "good goals" ruled out for offside. His timing is getting better and you know what you are going to get from him.

A bit of an unsung hero, but we have got a squad of those.
