Still rumbling

AS reports that Cebolla wants to quit Vicente Calderon despite being happy at the club in every aspect bar the amount of playing time he got last season.
Sunderland are said to be interested in the Uruguay international and Atletico are looking for a replacement, which would hurry Rodriguez out of the club.
The Black Cats are also said to be interested in Gimenez, as are Benfica and a host of clubs in La Liga.
Deportivo La Coruna, Villarreal, Rayo Vallecano and Malaga are also in the hunt but Atletico don’t want to let the defender go.
Atletico are said to be concerned about the numbers available in defence if Gimenez was to leave, although Emilio Insua and Javi Manquillo can go, the latter on loan to Liverpool.

Black Cats boss Gus Poyet wants to add his Uruguayan compatriot Rodriguez to his squad at the Stadium of Light and has been frustrated by his failed attempts to prise him away from the Spanish capital this summer.

Poyet last week revealed that his hopes of signing the winger were being hampered by financial issues.

Rodriguez, who is nicknamed 'The Onion', is a popular figure at Atleti and officials at the La Liga champions insist the player will have the final say over his future, which is expected to be decided this week.

The 28-year-old made only two league starts last season and is thought to be keen to leave the club in pursuit of greater first-team opportunities, and he is aware of Sunderland's interest.

He has just under two years left on his deal at the Vicente Calderon and is rated at around £4.5million.

Tell you what, if Poyet does get his way in this transfer market and it's just been either fitness or red tape issues or complex bargaining problems slowing everything down, then I think his words, "people will be surprised" are probably suggesting we have a great chance of landing, Borini, Rodwell, Rodriguez, Vrgini, Alonso, Djik, AND another striker.

Although it would be foolhardy to even dream of these players all coming in this transfer window....I would however, like to bet we get four of the above, whether through buy or loan deals.

Poyet did say he had his list of wanted players and added he would not be getting involved in the financial side of any deals. He also will be well pissed off if the board can't close these deals out soon.

I think he's took the piss with wage demands, but unless another prem club comes in for him then we've probably offered the best he's going to get. He just needs tome to realise this.
