Manchester City have appointed former Barcelona and Liverpool coach Rodolfo Borrell as the club’s new Global Technical Director.

Borrell, 43, left his role as head of academy coaching at Anfield in November as part of a shake-up which also saw academy director Frank McParland depart.(They were both sacked for talking to Man City while under contract to Liverpool)

He was appointed at Liverpool by Rafa Benitez in 2009 after being credited with helping to develop young talents such as Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas while at Barcelona.


Is this a sign that City are going to try go the bring em through route? Will he try to poach LFC's brightest youngsters ?

If player sare encouraged by money and the prospect of ****ting on a scrap heap then I don't want them at Liverpool
 
Would you rather be a 17 year old at Liverpool who have given debuts to and continued to play players like Sterling, Ibe, Texeira, Flanagan in last few years... or City who have brought through Richard's 8 years ago?

They brought few Kasper Schmeichel and Joe Hart at the same time <ok>

Won't happen. You can bring in as many top youth coaches as you want but when you have the cash to go buy established players for £20m who will near enough guarantee you success right away, that option will be taken more often than now.

Same as Mourinho at Chelsea. Quick success is easier.
 
IF it is true that he was talking to City whilst still under contact to Liverpool then who cares where he wants to go now.

Allegedly they were talking to city behind our backs. hes joined them now the question is would you be worried hed try poach our bright young things

No. Any young player with desire should know that sticking with us would be far better for their development than moving to City. If they want to go there then there is only 1 reason for it.

You only have to read Chavski's board right now to see this is how it is. Lukaku's had two great seasons out on loan in the PL, playing with (no disrespect) players who aren't anywhere near the level as those at Chelsea, but still performing well. He just needs a shot surrounded by some better players to bring him on to the next level, but they don't want to give him that chance. They want to buy an established top player like Costa as number 1 and leave Lukaku for number 2 with Eto'o as 3. Doesn't matter that he's perfect for them - someone who will sit up top, strong and powerful, and will finish off chances their midfield make. He's not established enough - but never will be constantly being second fiddle or playing at a lower club.

Ridiculous. No idea why any young player would move to such clubs.

Borrel can do as he pleases, City will never sustain as they are because they will need at least 5 years to see any benefit from a youth focused policy. **** money clubs.
 
Although Borrell was Academy coach with us, isn't he now doing a different role for city? Global Technical Director implies looking for new talent anywhere in the world to bring into the first team.

I have no idea what that title means - it's just random words thrown together as a fancy title. He could be doing anything.

Like how dinner ladies are now called Midday supervisory assistants (honestly, they are).

You're right it could mean anything but the comments seemed to be erring on the side of him working with the academy which I don't think is necessarily so!
 
We got Borrell from Barca by offering a higher role, Man City have done the same
 
Fair play to city, we should have done more to keep the guy.

He is a legend of youth football and one of the main reasons that so many of our young players have turned out well.

I think BR is an awesome manager, but like how he didnt rate Henderson initially, I think he really underestimated how much of an asset Rodolfo Borrell was.

I dont think many young Liverpool players will follow him as many of the good uns that developed under him are now already getting first team football. Something that is highly unlikely at city
 
When you have somebody talented, ramping up efficiencies, implemented successful ideas, and climbing the ladder fast:

Under 18s Coach (July 2009-May 2011)
Reserve Team Head Coach (May 2011-November 2012)
Head of Academy Coaching (November 2012-November 2013)

...you don't let them go cheaply. And do everything possible within reason to hold on to them.

I hope we weren't too arbitrary/daft in his dismissal. And I hope it doesn't affect our long-term future.
 
Borrell, McParland and Segura did a fantastic job with our academy and we're starting to see the benefits.

However, it does seem likely that Borrell (and McParland I think) were talking to City without permission which is disrespectful, and adds context to their dismissals. Wish him all the best but we have two excellent coaches in Inglethorpe and Critchley now.
 
Thing I hate about the billionaires at Chelsea and Man City they wont develop a young player they will just go out and sign one for 20 or 30 million instead. Not one player has come through the ranks at chelsea in the last 10 years and not one will come through at either club in the next 10 so I'm not at all concerned by this.
