Manchester City have appointed former Barcelona and Liverpool coach Rodolfo Borrell as the club’s new Global Technical Director.

Borrell, 43, left his role as head of academy coaching at Anfield in November as part of a shake-up which also saw academy director Frank McParland depart.(They were both sacked for talking to Man City while under contract to Liverpool)

He was appointed at Liverpool by Rafa Benitez in 2009 after being credited with helping to develop young talents such as Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas while at Barcelona.

Is this a sign that City are going to try go the bring em through route? Will he try to poach LFC's brightest youngsters ?

nah.... its a much bigger job in theory at citeh as tehcnical director gets to buy players in theory. CIty will not bring kids through just like cheslea don't cos its too easy splash and fill then laon out.

the laon rules need urgent and strict regulation cos when one team can own 26 players on loan and still IN THEORY not break FFP... well it means something is badly wrong indeed.

I think it shouldn't be an outgoing loan limit but an incoming one. Clubs can't take more than 3 players from one club on loan unless you are a registered feeder club that cannot a) play in the top division of a side or b) (if it does play in the top division) cannot participate in European competition.

Unlimited U-23 transfers, 5 over that. Players can go on loan at one club for a maximum of (2?) years unless the player is officially transferred. That sort of thing. Details could be worked out, it's just an idea.

As for Borrell, I think he was great for us when working with Pep Segura. Difficult to really understand their importance as academy development works on a delay, results coming years later. Hopefully BR can work with his new directors and coaches.

Global Technical Director? What does that even mean? Whatever it is he should do well at it, but like it's been said City isn't the best club for youth and never will be.
