Brendan Rodgers arrived with a 180 page plan to turn LFC into world beaters.

Season 1.
•He sold a Striker and didnt replace him until the January window.
•He tried to offload Henderson
•We finished 7th

Season 2
•Suarez had a season of a lifetime
•Sturridge had a mainly injury free season
•We finished 2nd

Season 3
•Never replaced Suarez
•Stuck with out of form players
•Injuries meant a new formation that might just work
•We finished ?


My point is Rodgers and his 180 pages couldnt have seen these ups and downs. He just got lucky.

If Brendan had his way our now Vice Captain and next seasons Captain wouldnt even be at the club.

If Suarez didnt have the season of his life we wouldnt have been near 2nd

If Lovren and Johnson hadnt got injured we'd still be playing 4 at the back


Is Brendan the luckiest manager out there or is he finally being found out ?

What's the saying. Id rather have a lucky manager than s good one <ok>

Suarez had the season of his life but Rodgers built the team around him. Yes might not be rocket science but he changed his usual style of slow death by passing to quick counter attacking football.

how many managers in the league were playing 2 strikers... None of the top clubs but Rodgers had the balls to change to a diamond formation to accommodate the attacking threat
 
Its a pity really because I want to like Brendan but then he opens his mouth. The job was too big for him.

Big clubs and if we want to be considered a big club need to have a manager everyone respects and have achievements to back up their methods.

This season capped it all with talk of being written into Anfield folklore for getting out of a CL group. Ffs but thats what happens when your managers only achievements are promotion via a play off.
 
I dont agree with a lot of what you say. I also think the not replacing strikers and almost selling Henderson were not his fault he was a victim of a poor recruitment setup and a circumstance.

I actually think he is showing signs of turning it around. He has shown some tactical invention and suddenly we have some spark back in the team.

Team selection has been dodgy but things are clearly improving.

I think the biggest issue is our recruitment regime.

Pretty much this. To put it simply he's made far more mistakes than is acceptable, he's had plenty of cash to spend and he's had the opportunity to build his own squad. His buys have been awful (including the ones allegedly made by the committee) and the team looks far worse now performance wise than the team he took over from.
 
I think it;s evident that Rodgers simply does not have a clue about the defensive side of the game. Every team he has been at, the defence has regressed.

That's not the issue though - it;s his reluctance to get help from quality coaches who will do this for him.

And the best teams in the world are built on sound defences.

If Rodgers can get the help he needs, then he can go far. But I think his ego is too big to accept help.

Recruitment hanr been that b ad. In tes of big money signings he's made only Ballotelli and Lovren have been massive let downs (and probably mig as well). Can add Allen and Borini but that was potentially before he knew the squad and was buying what he knew.

The rest are young and have shown signs of becoming good players. Can, Moreno, Markovic, Lallana have all shown they can perform this year.

Recruitments been ****ing awful <laugh> The players you've listed have so far projected us to a mighty 17 points behind the leaders (not that that means they're terrible players...just not the only recruitment we needed in the summer).
 
the defensive issue is a big one

Kenny brought in Clarke and we tightened up almost immediately.

Rafa had a host of coaches working with him.

Including a goalkeeping coach who helped the strikers. I always remember Torres putting a lot of his goals down to the keeper coach. I cant imagine Achterberg is tipping the lads off about other keepers weaknesses.

Pascoe and Marsh look lost tbh. If we sit here quietly no one will notice kind of thing.

We need a def coach - hyppia or carra imo
We need a gk coach - achterberg just isnt up to scratch. If he was our keepers would command the area and be better at distribution.
We certainly need a str coach - Fowler or Rush

that would lighten the load on the staff already here and add some experience to the coaching ranks.

what player is going to disagree with what sami or carra or rushie and fowler tell them is good for their game.

I know id be having doubts if pascoe or marsh were trying to tell me do something a certain way only.
 
Bring in Hyppia or Clarke as defensive coach!! Although both would need persuading after tasting managerial life
 
Big Sami and God on the training pitch everyday.

Sterling's accuracy would improve immensely.

Remember God almost hit Phil Thompson with a football that led to his departure. Thompson gave him grief over the ball coming near him and Fowler replied "if I'd wanted to hit you , I'd have taken your ****in' head off." <laugh> But he was right , not very often Robbie missed the target.

Clarke is now the manager of Reading and only started about a month or 2 ago so wouldn't be available.
 
I don't think being a good player makes you a good coach. Loads of strikers play on instinct, is it even possible to share that instinct with someone else, or to explain what your thought process is when you're bearing down on the goalkeeper? And even then, would Fowler's instinct suit Sterling's qualities?
