This contradicts popular public opinion however. As proven at St. Marys Liverpool are allowed to defend there own penalty area by any means possible ( often these means constitute common assault ) and as proven in Stevie me's final Liverpool game sometimes the Pool don't bother to even defend !

 

And for all their wishing and hoping the worst on them, saints fans got to see Lovren and Lallana finish above them too

 

Like either of them played any significant part in that feat...

Plus I'm sure the £45m they received for the pair softened the blow of a club who've spent £217m in 3 seasons finishing above them like.....
