He refused to be part of the interview process, which seems to be the fashion these days in football.
There was a time that if you wanted a manager in work you would make a decision and at least be 80-90% sure you would offer him the job after an interview. Liverpool have managed to unsettle a few clubs over this.
As with any appointment the key is time. Rodgers could be a great appointment, but Liverpool cannot expect champions league football at the end of season 1.
Liverpool's 5th choice got lucky in a playoff final with a ****y Welsh team inherited and kept them up big ****in wow.
Those scousers are desperate.

Wow, have you actually seen Swansea play this season? He's a good manager definetely, his team proof of that - however he is inexperience for a big job like 'Pool
Yeah mate I saw them and fair play to their players held their own in the premier league against the best just as our team will.
But to appoint this clown on the basis of that is crazy.
Last option style.

Oh yes it's definitely a big ask and a gamble, however if you're in his position are you going to say no? He doesn't know how long it may be until he get's another offer at a big club, if ever...For me Channonfodder has summed it up perfectly in the post below yours.
Paul Lambert has resigned according to a flurry of recent reports, spearheaded by the Times.
Unhappy after Norwich City club officials refused to allow him to speak to Aston Villa again.
Wowzers.
Norwich are a well run club that seem to be going places, Villa may be a 'bigger' club but they are a sinking ship. Not a good move IMO if true

Disagree, I think Villa will ride again next season, after having been in hibernation too long. Top eight, minimum.
