He gets a bad rep Frank, and I can see why. What I find odd is that plenty of his ex players go on podcasts and say how great he was as a coach.
 
I liked Lampard as a player, even though the twat usually scored against us. I just don't think he's a Manager/Coach and hasn't achieved anything to convince me otherwise.

I don't really get what it is about Lampard's record that makes people so sure he's a crap manager.

Did well at Derby, did OK at Chelsea with no transfers, struggled at Everton but so did everyone else at that time, and then struggled at Chelsea second time but again, so did everyone around that time.

I made this point on the thread about English managers in the wake of England appointing Tuchel: I just think they're written off too quickly. When they fail at a crap club it's because they're crap, but when a foreign manager fails at the same club it doesn't affect their career as much.

I agree

Hes only really done badly at everton, and he did no worse than benitez
Its just a basket case club

He might not ever be a top manager, but hes good enough to be a decent championship manager

The thing with Gerrard and Lampard is that they were doing okay and on a normal trajectory at Rangers and Derby, respectively. Then they got the Villa and Chelsea jobs more so due to their names and playing careers than their coaching experience and it just ****ed up their progression and perception of their own coaching abilities. The jump from Rangers/Derby to Villa/Chelsea was so farcical and forced even at the time, let alone in hindsight.

Should have taken Derby up with Mel's millions behind him, but just sneaked into the play-offs and failed to get them up. The Chelsea job probably came too early for him, but he took them backwards then Tuchel came in, re-instated Rudiger (who wasn't getting a game) and Chelsea went on to win the CL that season - something they wouldn't have done had Lampard remained. Then was doing his best to take Everton down at the 2nd attempt before they gave him the boot.

Great player - but great players rarely make great managers - and lots of questions remain about his managerial abilities.
