He is a dire CB, carried by much better players around him.

But I agree with UTDs CBs they are not good enough

No way is he "dire" he is very inconsistent though.
The fact that he is the best England has to offer is shocking, especially when you look back over the last couple decades where they have had awesome defenders (Adams, Campbell, Rio, JT)
Cahill is no where near the same league as any of those, that much I cannot argue.

He's always reminded me of Jonny Evans. Can play well, and has some good games, but always looks like an accident waiting to happen.

Also desperately needs a top CB to play alongside him - same way Evans always looked solid playing alongside Rio or Vidic, so Cahill looks great with Terry to keep him focused. When you had Luiz and Cahill playing at the same time there were always a few moments of "WHAT THE **** ARE THEY DOING?!" then the opposition usually scored. It's no wonder Mourinho felt free to ditch Lampard and build for the future in midfield but is still relying on Terry at the back.

Luiz and Cahill were our CB pairing in the Champions League final of 2012 :p
Saying that though, the performance was most definitely a one off.

Swansea were always going to bottle it. 3 losses to livpl was always likely. Monk was Roger's captain ffs <laugh>
