Master strategist. Putting all your hopes and future in a match you are certain to win. Winning finals is such a walk in the park for him
Let's see how well you do in it next season Christian. After all, we did knock you out without breaking sweat The future is bright. I'm optimistic, and realistic
True, but is it not a concern that's increasingly Klopp's modus operandi in finals? Dominate the opening exchanges, create some chances, get the opponent on the back foot and then wilt as soon as the opposition poses a threat. It happened last season against Wolfsburg in the Pokal, and you should have made more of your early dominance against City in the LC this season, but once they scored they dominated and you were lucky to take it to penalties. Do you reckon Klopp just needs to keep going as he is, or change his approach if he's going to win silverware on a consistent basis? I'd be concerned that now his tactics are so well known, he's at risk of becoming another Wenger.
I honestly don't buy into 'he's **** at finals'. Each game is so different, far too many variables to simply say he's no good in finals. I honestly think we could have finished them off in the 1st half. Our players didn't turn up though it was probably Coutinho's worst game in a Liverpool shirt, and Sturridge doesn't work hard enough. It's all ifs and buts - but blaming Klopp's record in the last few finals is a lazy excuse tbh.
It's not just the record though, it's the way his teams play in finals. After it has happened with both Dortmund and Liverpool it's hard to say he has nothing to do with it. You might as well say it's lazy to blame Arsenal's failure to win the league on Wenger's style and approach. And people had no problem judging SAF as unable to beat Barca based on the results of two games. Still, in his defence he does seem to qualify for a lot of finals so we'll probably get more insight into it over the next few years.
Christian doesn't do logic Sky, it's better to have been there and lost than not to have been there at all. Us knocking them out is still hurting him bigtime.
Exactly, you have to get to finals to even talk about this. So it's not a bad topic to discuss I don't think his tactics are to balme at all. I think if the players had played how he wanted we'd be winners this morning. The players didn't press like we're now used to. It was a very lazy effort all round. When Kolo Toure was your best player you know something went wrong!
Yes, because that argument was given so much support by Liverpool fans a few years back when it was us getting tanked 3-1 by Barca. But of course the argument that doesn't apply to the CL final obviously applies to the EL
Stan is spot on. All their best results have come at home. On safe turf with the loud support of their fans. Away from home, their results have been mediocre at best. In almost all of them they started well but ultimately have come back with a disappointing result. Last minute goal conceded here and there. As for his ability to get finals I agree with you. In two games ties, his ability to lift his team at home has given him unlikely progression in competitions. But he and his teams will face that huge psychological hurdle of having lost so many finals and through avoidable collapse. If I am honest, Sevilla was there for the taking and the game should have been in over in the first half. No one in the Sevilla camp could have hoped for such a start to the second half: 17 seconds. All his teams will be viewed as having a soft centre that can be exploited. Score a goal back and they bend over for you.. As for United, I agree with many here who said LVG was a ****ing **** not to take the competition seriously. The away match at the RS was a disgrace. Not prepared, no energy and no surprise. It gave them the belief they could win any game at home and so it proved with Dortmund and Villarreal. Funnily enough, better teams on paper than Sevilla.
I thought they pressed very well in the first half, got on top of Sevilla and kept them out of the game for most of it. But utterly failed to respond at half time and fell apart as soon as Sevilla got one back. Whether that's the fault of the players for being lazy, or the manager for failing to respond to the tactical changes Sevilla made at half time is up for debate. It was clear that Sevilla were much better than Liverpool all around, and their players were more up for it once it became a contest in the second half. But I personally didn't see Klopp make any meaningful tactical changes beyond shouting at his players to run around more and throwing on Benteke for route one after the game was already well out of reach.
He has to take the blame for being frozen like a rabbit in the headlights. He should have acted much quicker like Mourinho would have done. He just tried to get the crowd more vocal but what was needed were changes on the pitch and stemming the flood that was coming their way. Motivator he may be but master tactician he is not.
There's nothing more tedious in football than hearing about Liverpool's "high pressing" game. Never mind, I'm sure they'll go again.
It has worked and will work against some teams especially in the first half of games. City, Chelsea and a few other teams were taken by surprise. But if you are tactically disciplined then they will find it difficult to keep it up for 90 minutes. That is why they flounder in the second half of many games. They cannot physically keep it up but also they cannot keep the same tactical discipline going on for the whole game. What happened in Basel is not new, it happened many times in the premiership. They had very good first halves only to allow the other team to come back later. I see many of their fans think that when he brings his own players he will have a very successful team. The problem is that most astute managers have already experienced and worked out his game plan. They won't be taken by surprise any more and will be ready to face his tactics even with better players.
Let's be honest, without Liverpool repeatedly falling at the last, the last few seasons would have been even less enjoyable.
Aye, can't deny it. As ****e as we've been for the last three years, we still have more recent success than Liverpool. Silver linings and all that

let us not forget that your goal came from an individual moment of magic from Sturridge and till that moment the match was fairly balanced. is not First time Sevilla came back to win , they did it lots of times, did Klopp prepared his team for that? from what I seen, NO. then when you needed your manager to react, he couldn't deliver.. he simply didn't had plan B.
