no because that's not glory hunting <doh>

because I am from a nearby area. It'd be fairly hypocritical of me to tell you off for not being from manc if I wasn't.

From a nearby area? Sounds like there are other clubs closer to you that didn't have quite the same appeal....is it the old, "I'm from London/the Home Counties which is close to Chelsea" argument?

Well people like my Dad have seen Chelsea relegated, years without trophies and still spent well earned money to go to games and then for a person with no ties to the club i.e. foreign fans, who probably hadn't heard of us pre-97, to come when we suddenly win a league leaves the thought 'where were you when we were ****?'.

Aye, the influx of foreigners with no connection to or understanding of the club does take the piss a wee bit. But then imo there's a difference between foreign, or non local, fans who support a team for a genuine reason, be it the style of football, the philosophy, the history, the players, whatever, and foreign fans who just latch onto them due to nothing but success. Exactly as there is a difference between local fans who love the club and support them through thick and thin, and those who claim to be lifelong supporters as soon as the club has a bit of success.

By the way I wasn't having a dig at shwan with that comment about match day experience, was just saying you miss out on that by not supporting your local team. That's what I loved best about supporting my local side.

That depends a lot on who your local team is. I doubt some people who live in Milwall will be gutted to have missed out on match day experience, when that experience often involves sitting next to a load of skinheads looking for a fight. Ultimately, you miss out on match day experience by not supporting a local team (unless your cym of course ;)) but not all match day experiences will be equal.

As for your last comment, quite ignorant and not a question anyone can answer really.

Not sure why it's ignorant? It's the same point as above - at what point does a team become your local team? Utd is my most local league club, but when living in Altrincham there was non league Altrincham FC (who I did go to watch a fair few times), and back in Croft and Warrington there were amateur and semi pro local clubs. And I'd guess there were probably non league / semi pro clubs more local to your dad than Chelsea?

Ultimately the local club factor is important, but everyone defines their locality differently, and a big club like Utd or Chelsea will have a much larger local area than one like Altrincham FC or Spotted Dog FC (the team from Croft). As long as you make a genuine emotional connection and stick with the team through thick and thin it doesn't matter that much imo.

no, my dad is also from the same area and also a Chelsea fan. You will never have had the privileges and match day traditions I had as a kid because you are from nowhere near Manchester.

hhh ok so it is your granddad decision, in anyway it was not your decision and your personality had zero influence .. what a charming story ?

can't disagree with any of that tbf. Ignorant was probably the wrong word, just a pointless comment ;)

Are you saying I had no choice in the matter? I chose to support my local club because that's the way I feel all football fans should be, my Dad had some influence on that but it's really up to me.

YEPP.. if your granddad decided to live near Millwall, you would had been a Millwall supporter .. the club and its history is irrelevant for you .. bcz according to you that is how is done .. is your granddad who decided that not you

So? I want to help my local club because i'm proud of where i'm from and will pay money to watch them and keep them afloat, I don't know how old you are shwan but you can't have been too old when you started supporting United and will have missed out on match day experiences by not supporting your local team.

why must there be some romantic bollocks in supporting a club? are you not proud of where you're from?

same difference between letting your family picking your partner in arranged marriage compared of doing so when falling in love
that is the difference between me and you .. i fall in love .. while your family picked your club for you ;)

That makes you smarter than all those who jumped on the Chelsea bandwagon at least.

Not only do United have a history of success and great football, unlike Chelsea, we have a future.

doesn't not attending any games bother you?

doesn't not attending any games bother you?

sure it dose .. but so dose for people who support a club of their childhood and had to move when at 20s or 30s to have a career somewhere else .. life is unfair and not perfect at times .. c'est la vie

At least the high ticket prices keep out the undesirables <ok>

Maybe City and Chelsea should jack their prices up some more to keep the racist scumbags out.

yeah just be a load of jumped up tree huggers who ain't got a clue like yourself.

No, just someone who thinks grown men should be able to show passion without acting like a bunch of hate filled, ******ed, children.

I tell you, most of the Chavs are bald. Those that aren't naturally bald like to shave their heads so they can fit in with the delightful chaps in those pictures. Really classy bunch.

I do believe the haircut of choice for female skinheads is called a "Chelsea" as well in America. Not to mention London skinheads disliking hippies so much....

All the pieces are starting to fall into place now.
