6 years ago an English team that wears claret and blue were knocked out of Europe's 2nd competition.
They faced an unfancied opponent for the second consecutive season and were eliminated for the second time by that team.
That team was Aston Villa and they steadily declined for the subsequent years, resulting in their relegation last season.

It'd be a real shame if West Ham were to replicate that pattern... <whistle>

Their desperation knows no bounds. In the wake of that defeat the have apparently put in a bid for a BBC feline cartoon character from the '70's!!!

Zaza? For sure
West Ham 0-1 Astra Giurgiu (Agg: 1-2)

The latest reports reaching us are that West Ham are now very close to signing Zaza for an eye-watering, trouser-scrunching £24m.

So a 25 yr old currently at a CL club is going to join the club
just dumped out the Europa by Astra Zeneca sunday league ??

I deduce one of the :

1. Juventus squad are so good this guy is surplus to reqts
2. "offer" by the Spanners is too tempting to resist

I've just heard they want to bring the greyhounds back to the Hackney Hammers ground to liven things up!

Seems there is the usual response from Wet Spam supporters with the BBC siding with them. The general consensus being that they are better off out of Europe as playing at least 6 extra games will hamper their chances of qualifying for the Europa Cup next season where they will be knocked out in the qualifiers by Auztin Allegro (Moldovan champions) which will then allow them to concentrate on the league to qualify for the Europa again to be knocked out in the qualifiers by......... (rinse and repeat for as long as you like).

So if they finish 5-6th in the PL come May, they avoid the Astra Zeneca humiliation but have it
spread over 6 group games with loadsa airmiles earned.

All PL clubs that participate in UEFA land know that the real fatigue on the squad comes
when the UEFA competitions happen during the final third of the PL season (ie KO stages) .
Last season was the first time Spurs dealt with it without derailing CL qualification via the PL.

The Spanners are a small club whose wannabee aspirations cannot be delivered on-pitch.
You cannot get millions of taxpayers on the pitch in your kit (actually the Spanners could as
the ball is always 30 ft in the air) .

Exactly, what is the point in concentrating on the league if you're just gonna piss away the reward. Its not like they're gonna win the league!

I think ArsenalFanTV has a new rival in town:

The West Ham Fan TV Youtube channel retweeted that, to be fair to them.

This is IMHO a more definitive precis of what it is to be a Spanner supporter ...
